Default BEST OVERALL INSHORE OFFSHORE FISHING BOAT 23-26 FT UNDER $75K, AND WHY?

Let's talk Meat and Potatoes: Dry ride, easy to handel, room to fish, smooth ride, great boat layout, plenty of options, drifting and trolling without to much pitch and roll, ability to handle the rough stuff, able to handle the medium flats inshore, good fuel managemant, speed, etc..

Let's get the truth out there Hull Commanders

Come take a ride on my boat......

Parker 2520 XL F225
2 to 2.25 mpg
Range: 173 gallon tank...... safely 300 miles
Draft 15 inches
As dry as you want

Went offshore today with 4 adults and one 10 year old.... 140 miles.... 70 gallons at 2.39....... 3 foot seas all day..... tough day finding fish to bite but we brought home a 37 lb 53 inch wahoo...... nobody complained about the ride which was limited to 20 mph for comfort.

Things I've read that I believe to be true:

1. get the boat you think you want and need now and in a year or so you will know exactly what you want.

2. get 2 feet more than you think you'll need.

3. every boat is a compromise

4. use the info here to decide which boats to check out and test ride..... you can't judge a boat by the way I tell you it rides...

I've got 180 hours on my boat as of this day and I've been over 1800 miles since March....... I learn something new about it every time out..... the way it handles certain situations....

Get out and start riding boats..... and the one you are serious about in many different situations.

New World Cat 230 SF

Great ride, real dry, good fuel economy and speed, easy tow package, very good quality, very good cutomer support, shallow draft, and twin 4 stroke power.

Take a look at a late model Pursuit 2470 W/A. Had mine 35 miles offshore for albacore today in measured 7 foot, 7 second waves (per 46042 buoy report). Ran almost directly into it at 15 kts, and home at 25 with slightly improved seas. Not fun, but not too bad, and we stayed out for 8 hours and landed our albacore. Very dry, comfortable boat for it's size, runs almost 35 kts with a single Yamaha 225 at about 2 MPG.I fish 4 guys for albacore, and five for Salmon with plenty of room. I traded in a much liked 22 ft hardtop Grady for the Pursuit, and could not be more happy with the change.

IS THIS THE GREAT AMERICAN BOAT HOLD OUT OR WHAT. IF THIS THREAD WAS ABOUT THE WORST OVERALL BOAT, THE BASHERS WOULD BE IN THEIR GLORY.

Are you looking New, or Used?

And, Inshore/Offshore, quite a difference, what do want to the most? (IMO there is not a do it all boat, that is amazing for both.)
We'll all say - "Everything's a trade-off."

The criteria you listed are mostly the same ones that were in my mind last year when I bought the Triton 2486. You can get it loaded for that money.........that's including full electronics. Now, under some conditions, there are hulls that I might be more partial to..............but overall, IMO the Triton was the best of all worlds and I would buy it again today

My choice was:
http://www.seasportboats.com/ss1pgs/xl.html
Handles the chop great, plently of fishing off the cockpit, hard cabin with heat, and built like an absolute tank.

Grady White 265 Express!
You can get a 2000-2002 used in
that price range with twin 200 hp engines.
I have 2000 with T-200 OX-66s that I've had for 2
seasons now. It's been a great boat that I can do
anything I'd want to do in a 26' boat!

I also considered the Carolina Classic 25 and Albe 26.
Both fine vessels and highly regarded by their owners.
They were both very spartan for the $$ though.
And I don't like i/o s!
From what I've read the CC and Albe can handle the
rough stuff better than my GW but I've been in tight 5's
and felt ok but I did have to slow down a bit. I don't
usually fish in more than 4' if I don't have to.
I'm much faster (40mph wot) than both of them and the cc25
are usually on single screw boats.

The GW 265 is much more stable drift fishing which I do alot of.

Good luck! I hope you find something right for YOU!

If you want a no nonsense, low maintainence, economical to run, and tough as nails fishing boat check out the Pacifics at www.blacklabmarine.com. If you like to wax and polish glass and are into bells and whistles these are not the boats for you though. Of course I am highly biased.

The key question to answer involves the ability to handle the rough stuff, Some boats can handle the rough stuff, but need to slow down to 20mph or less to do so. Other boats can maintain a much faster cruise in the rough stuff, but do tend to roll when on the drift. That is where the tradeoff comes, a tough decision to make for all boaters.

Now own my 9th boat in 22 years, hulls from 16 to 28, fished inshore and offshore, my choice is easy, a twin vee 26, either a CC or weekender, meets all your expectations.....worth a look-see....Mick

I have a 265 Albemarle. It isn't spartin in side the cabin but the cockpit is. I agree they may roll too much for some, be a little slower, only have on engine, and use some more fuel than others. But get caught in 5 foorters once and you'll wish you were in a 265 Albe or 25 CC.

TwinVee 26 Outrage CC with Suzuki 140s.

The good: Good ride in chop, very stable, doesn't draft much, WOT in high 40s, very fuel efficient, wide open cockpit.
The bad: Pre 2005 models are somewhat utilitarian looking. 2005+ with the higher gunnels look much better.

depending on options, you could get into a Mckee 24 Freedom for that price. no question a quality offshore/nearshore fishing boat that keeps the family happy and can do the big time stuff AND fish the bays as well.
