Just a few pics of the US variety of panga. Seems a lot of folks think flat bottom when they hear panga. Couldn't be farther from the truth. They aren't flat like a lot of their southern cousins that have given the name a rough ride kind of stereotype. Rear starts to flatten pretty quickly in the last 3-4 feet but it still far from flat bottomed.. Arlon
That sure is an awesome looking boat. I bet it rides like a dream too.
Where in Houston do you live? I'm originally from La Grange and I used to drive all around Houston during my days as a Double B Beef Jerky salesman. I've seen the best parts and the absolute worst parts. Truthfully, I'd much rather live in Houston than Little Rock.

2008 F150 King Ranch 4x4,
Mileage is mediocre
but the leather is awesome
Going to sea trial one.. hopefully next week if I can get some time to drive to Sarasota Fl. I've been looking for a good cheap flats boat and for $15k she sounds like a decent deal. Now, if she will only meet my expectations. I personally think it will do better with a 115 vs. the 90 any advise on power would be helpful.
I understand the 22 can be set up with jack plates and they do OK in skinny water. The 22 really has my attention. I will be happy to post my non bias opinion once I've driven one!!
I'm sure a stupid question... but I noticed the last photo has a boat that says "Angler" on the side. Are Angler Boats making Panga or in some other way connected?

The angler panga is a differnt boat than the one offered by panga.com. Be very careful about what you are buying here. Most pangas are junk.
The angler panga has nothing to do with any of the dotcom panga boats. It is entirely designed by mercury marine as a platform for their engines in the 3rd world markets. It has been produced overseas for a number of years. A mould for the boat was shipped to Angler from a south american country when Mercury Marine contracted with Angler to make the "mercpanga" here in the US to test the market, reduce shipping cost and add "US" ammenities (floatation, consoles, liner, t-top, leaning posts, etc) I presume. One reason this boat is so different from other Angler boats is Angler had little or nothing to do with it's design. They only built the boats for Mercury Marine. Late 03/early 04, some deal was struck between mercury and Angler and the mercpanga name was dropped from the side of the boat and an Angler sticker replaced it. The real reason the Angler panga is unique (and it is truly unique) is because of the effort put into the design by Mercury Marine. I just wish they had done their homework better on the diesel because it has it's own set of issues but it sure doesn't take anything away from an excellent, dry riding hull...

Bullshipper:
Thanks for the heads up.
I was under the impression that Panga.com was the original and the better of the two. Not sure after reading panga mans post about Angler. Now I will have to sea trail both..I actually have plans with a buddy to test the Panga.com tomorrow but just got a call and will have to work tomorrow and may not get to it until next week now.
Going offshore Tuesday weather permitting.
This should give me time to track down a dealer for the Angler/Panga model.
I'm confused. Would that Panga have come from panga.com?
I only ask because in their FAQ section it says that I/O's wouldn't be available till mid 06
Secondly, what's the beam on such a boat?
Thanks
Bob
Angler boat has absolutely nothing but the Panga name in common with the dotcom boats. If you ever actually look at one you'll understand what I mean. One of the dotcom companies are pretty underhanded in my opinion. They have gone so far as to grab the web name Anglerpanga.com and it redirects you to their web site that has nothing to do with the Angler Panga. Try it and you will see which one. In my opinion, that's just down right unethical and just adds to the confusion. I guess it's one legal way to try and misdirect and steal some business. That's just an example of how low one company will stoop in their business practices.
The Angler boat is 26'7" long by 7'7" wide and is 24" deep (floor to gunnel).
I like the diesel it just has it's own set of issues that a lot of others may not like. I'm a diesel fan and a "gear head" so different maintenance, going a bit slower (a diesel mentality) doesn't concern me. There have been some very recent issues I've come across concerning the longevity and support of the 1.7 engine. There have been a number of failures of this engine when used to repower heavy cruiser type hulls. I have not yet heard of a failure in a panga. I just today found out that cummins has also revised the owners manual to help reduce the load on the engine (obviously they know there is a problem too) as the original manual had a poor (too low) propping rpm range suggested for this engine. They also added inspection service for the wastegate. The 1.7 is like a "red headed step child from a broken marriage" when it comes to getting straight answers/support from cummins. Ask 4 cummins techs the same question and you get 4 answers. Hopefully they will get their act togather. If you don't understand diesels (as of this writing) I would probably lean toward the OB until all votes are counted... The best thing in the world for this engine was for Cummins taking over responsibility for it. Nothing worse than having an OB company trying to support a diesel. Now at least there is a diesel company supporting the diesel and when they get their heads at cummins togather, some of the issues will go away. As to the performance and economy, I couldn't be happier. It's the support side that has me a little concerned. Right now, if my engine has a problem I'll have to turn it over to some diesel mechanics at Cummins Southern Plains that have never even seen this engine in person.. Arlon
