Default Noise Pollution

I am probably gonna get hammered by this one...but lets see. My wife and I head out to the islands alot and just sit in the water and have an adult beverage or two and just relax. Granted there are lots of boats that come in and surround you but that's fine. My issue is with this assclowns that tie up right next to you and turn their freaking radio on full blast to the point that you cant even have a conversation with the person next to you. Is it just me, or is there a lack of common courtesy that some people are lacking or is it just me and I should just shut the hell up.

Let me know. I dont care if they play music, but not to the point where the water is vibrating.

I agree with you, but there's not much you can do with these idiots.

I was up at a big sandbar north of Jax one Saturday when guy walked up and down the sandbar asking everyone to turn there stereo to the same station. Almost everyone did and since it was a local station it came in clear.
It was kind of cool hearing the exact same music echo up and down the beach.
There was one or two hold-outs that were still thumbing their rump-shaker music but soon they got with the program.
First and last time I've seen that level of cooperation at a sandbar (as far as music goes anyhow)

My stereo system is worth more than the hull and motor. I have to wear hearing protection to listen. If at the sand bar cranking out Ronnie Millsap and singing Smokey Mountain rain at the top of my lungs while i chug Coors light, I suggest you just stay away....

I don't mind the loud music, or or the competing genres from all directions.

But when the stereo systems are so cheap that all you hear is literally distortion, that really pisses me off.

Actually the other day, this guy with 2 very small children docks next to me...maybe 20 feet and starts with some ridiculous music I would expect to hear out of a boat with a bunch of teenage girls dancing...anyways, I asked nicely for him to turn it down....

Luckily, I'm a powerlifter at the gym so I tend to be much bigger than most of the people out there....needless to say, he grabbed his anchor and walked his boat over about 50+ yards. I gave him the thumbs up at that point.

Pays to be nice (lol)

Unfortunately ignorance and stupidity cannot be cured with a set of boat keys, just pull up anchor and move. Someday, when they grow up a bit, they too will be pulling anchor when some wing nut pulls up and ruins their day.

Powerlifter huh?
I was gonna be one of those once but I found out you had to exercise and stuff.
Decided to be a barfly instead. Much less effort and dedication required and fit more closely with my passion for sitting doing nothing and consuming alcohol.

Yeah, I've done that before as well. Unfortunately, you just end up in another spot and the whole thing starts all over again.

The last time I did that thought, they really pissed me off and I asked them to turn it down but I dont think they were paying any attention, (they were all drunk) so I picked up anchor and went full throttle right next to them. Sent a freaking wave about 4 feet high right at their boat...they got the hint as they watched me ride off.

What is it with the "herding" instinct in some people?

I am like the old grizzly, leave me the hell alone.

All too many people want to be part of a herd.

Years ago the wife and I are enjoying the solitude of a quiet cove on a lake. Many quiet coves there were, none of which were in use.

Along comes a boat load (and I mean boat load) of non-US citizens that pull up right along side. Mariachi music blaring. They are yapping to each other like magpies.

If I had asked them to leave they probably would not have understood. English not being their language and all. I motored off in search of another cove.

I long for the long lost quiet days of yesteryear.

It seems to be more of a Fl thing. Most of the post about adding a 5,000,000 watt system come from people in FL. These system's you guys are installing must be crap because 250 watts should blow your boat out of the water. Well it did back in the 80's. These systems your installing must be way over rated because I can tell you if your truly pumping 500 to 1000 watts you deaf to begin with.

I do not want a radio on my boat because I go fishing to get away from everything. I did find a good station I like in my truck and it is IKMR O.F.F.

I can't boat without my FM tunes playing. But quietly.

It is the VHF that has to stay off because of all of the idle and anal chatter that goes on. A good thing has all but been ruined.

There was a fella at one of last summers tournaments that was blaring country music over the VHF while singing along and commenting on the lyrics.
Since I dont usually drink during tournaments I may not have introduced this guy to my fish bat however I would have sent his VHF to that big Radio Shack in the sky had I figured out which boat it was.
