Default Best boat for under 20K?

New to boating and I am looking for a dual console for under 20K. I would like the boat to have a Yamaha 115 4 stroke. Any suggestions? Make, Model, Price. I am willing to travel outside of the Charleston, SC for the right boat.

Thanks in advance

Jason,

Chek out the Key west boats 1720 DC, Key West boats seem to make a pretty darn good product
I don't know if 20k is the price for this rig but I don't think it could be to much more than that.
maybe someone can give some real numbers regarding this boat.

Edgewater makes a 18.5 dual console, you could find one used for that price.

Sea Hunt Escape "186 DC", 115/4-stroke Yama, trailer - $18,499 (Ed's Marine Superstore)!

And that's for NEW (MAY be a 2005, not sure?)!

Regards,

for 20k I would personally be looking at the slightly used well equiped boats. With a 20k budget you should be able to find a boat that is a couple of years old that already has electronics & other add ons with it. also, I see that you are in Charleston? is there a particular reason that you prefer to have a dual console as opposed to a center console? I've been on the water there several times in both, and IMO would not consider buying a dual console. From the helm the difference in the ride is huge.

I second Bruce W's Sea Hunt 186 Escape - I have one and love it. F115 sips gas, pulls skiers and tubers just fine, can troll and cruise with no probs, 16* deadrise hull gives a nice all around ride. Bought mine at Chatlee, <$20K with an alum trailer (Ed's was a galv trlr), cushions and bolsters, port lounge seat (for the wife and daughter to catch their rays) and Yamaha Stainless prop. Had BOE ship them a Garmin 178C - they rigged it perfect - doesn't lose bottom at any speed, and the chartplotter works great. FF is still under review, but expect it to be the same. Chatlee lived up to their rep (do a search) - great folks to deal with...

I'd vote for the twin vee or possibly a 22ft panga. But I have never ridden in either of them. I did look at both in person and if a 19ft twin vee could really be had for $20k that's what I'd be taking out for a sea trial. The 22 panga is also a lot more boat than I imagined. It's a lot bigger in person than the photos look. Looking at a older 22-2 aquasport and the panga, until you sit in one, it's hard to believe they are the same length.. I really doubt either could be had for $20k equiped to fish though.. If you could wait a few more months till winter, you might find some better deals out there.. Arlon

Sorry, I missed that "DUAL CONSOLE" I just read right through that as a center console.. Forget what I said.. Arlon

I'm anything but a racist. Why can't they hire a few AMERICANS here and there. Oh, that's right, they might have to pay them a living wage. Sorry about that.

I picked up my Hydra-Sports 180CC with Yamaha F115 on a trailer for $20,500 brand new last summer. It's a great boat with a real nice ride for the size.

I actually bought my boat on ebay. I waited until I found what I wanted for sale within reasonable driving distance, looked at it, then bid (and won). I got a 23 foot Parker WA w/hard top, '02 Furuno electronics, '01 225 OX66 Yamaha and trailer for exactly 20K. I didn't need th trailer, so sold it for 1,400 to reduce the price to 18,600. And this was in Maryland, where boat prices are insane.

The moral of the story is (1) let someone else take the first depreciation hit and (2) plenty of used boats in excellent condition are out there -- just be patient and a bit creative when searching (and try to have the boat surveyed before sealing the deal).

Good luck.

Cape Horn or Sea Hunt. Key West might be a little more expensive. I just went through this last year. After months of researching and driving to shows and dealers of a bunch of brands I ended up with a Cape Horn 17.
