I would choose the 250 zuke at this time but with a hopeful eye toward the e-tec. I am glad I don't have to repower yet. The e-tec is just to new for my blood. If after 2 years their owners are still raving about them then I would probably go in that direction. If you need reliable power today I think the zukes are a safer bet. This is not a knock on the rudes just my opinion for me that I want to see them in real world service a little longer before I drop that kinda of cash

I was a die-hard 2 stroke fan until I tried the Suzuki DF250. Smooth, quiet, and powerful. There are trade-offs with each, but I will admit I am now a fan of 4 strokes. Repowered with the DF250's and have been really happy with the choice. Good luck!

You really cant go wrong. If you dont have a Suzuki tech anywhere near you then this would give me a bit of pause.I am surrounded by Evinrude guys and the boat I wanted had the Etec and was ready to go so I leapt. So far so good. Had a bad sensor but the motor is powerful, quiet, no smoke, no shift clunk. Great! It is so quiet and easy going into gear and it idles so low that I really cant detect exactly when it shifts. This is a significant departure from other engines I have dealt with.

I would go e-tec just due to Suzuki service issues and looks Boat are as good as it gets when it comes to noise, performance, gph...I think the e-tec is much better looking...have you seen the yellowfin in photos today those e-tecs look sweeeeeeet

Hmmm! I kind of like the black smooth round Suzuki looks compared to the boxy white ETECs. Both seem to be the way to go, either way! I like the fresh water ETECs looks better than the white saltwater ones but the lines are not as good as the zuke to me still. Too each his own I guess.
Re: Suzuki 250/four stroke or Evinrude E-Tec 250/two stroke??
Suzuki still has some issues with parts availability and lack of enough dealers to support them. (Albeit, they make one helluva motor) Evinrude appears to have hit a least a solid double (if not ground rule triple) with the E-Tec, alot of which I credit to the excellent marketing campaign. Will be a home run if all stays well for a couple years. DOn't think you could go wrong with either. Pick by dealer support in the area where you will be boating.
Re: Suzuki 250/four stroke or Evinrude E-Tec 250/two stroke??
Coastal boating center has 4 certified techs on staff for the suzuki engines and are 7th in the nation in sales for zuke. Have only had two powerhead issues since 2003. 457 motors sold too. One failure definitely due to negligence. Great engines.
Re: Suzuki 250/four stroke or Evinrude E-Tec 250/two stroke??
Any interest in a 2005 E Tec 250 with zero hours? All kidding aside, I am looking at a boat with a 250hp E Etec but I think the boat is better suited for twins (not possible to do as I found out on THT today) or a single 300hp which leaves me only one option at this time and I'm not hip on going with the 300hpdi.
My previous boat had a Yamaha 4 stroke and I can't complain about the 4 stroke motor. But the E Tec has caught my eye and I am impressed with what I see so far. And not having to change the oil is a big plus for me.
If I purchase the boat (negotiating with dealer right now) I would consider selling the E Etc and would wait for the 300hp 4 strokes to come out. Boat would be put into storage until April... Let me know if you are interested.
Re: Suzuki 250/four stroke or Evinrude E-Tec 250/two stroke??
I would not go with the Etecs, unless you are not that worried about fuel cosumption. I personally know of two boats that have twin etecs 200's and they are not getting near the fuel economy that they were promised. They can't get better than 1.3 mpg no matter what. Also, there is another offshore Parker down here that has etecs and he has blown both engines already. Now it's in the shop for spraying fuel all around inside the cowling. These might be isolated instances, but it just so happens that these three guys are the only ones I know that own the new Etecs and they all have had problems, thats not isolated to me.
Looks pretty darn good to me! John Thomas- are you sure your friend did not mount the counter rotating motor on the wrong side or is he possibly registering his MPG while running in reverse? 1.3 mpg just sounds low unless he's got a big battle wagon.
