Bad Gas? Just thought I would ask what might be obvious to other folks. I have a volvo Penta I/O. Last week I found that it would miss once in a while while running at 3000 RPM. It seemed to iddle fine. When I went to shut the engine off it kept running, or trying to. It only did it once in a while. So I figured Bad Gas. I fill it up via Gas cans from a local station. So I put in some gas dryer (the stuff if you think you have water in the gas) and I changed the gas filter. I looked at the gas that was in the filter and did not see any water in it after it settled so I was not sure that was the problem. In general what I did seemed to help. However when I was running it Sunday it missed a few times again and I had trouble starting it after a 20 minute drift for Fluke. Eventually it started but it took a lot of cranking. I don't know if it is possible is still some of the bad gas but I have put about 40 gallons of the next higher octane in hopeing that might help.
I know that was rather long, as a novice I am not sure if there is something else I should try or look for or if anyone can recommend something else to check. I tend to limit my trips to 3 or 4 miles off the coast and would like feel more comfortable if I fixed the problem. Not sure if it is just that the gas has to work its way out or there is something else I should try. Any suggestions would be appreciated. By the way the Engine is only 2 years old and has a total of about 70 hours on it. It was serviced at the end of last season by an authorized deal.
Thanks for any suggestions. |
