Default BEST YAMAHA MOTOR?? 200 2 stroke 225 4 stroke

I know the 200 HPDI's have a better hole shot than the 4 stroke but what motor do you think will require less maintenance and will last the longest? Which one between the 2 has the best overall reputation. I do a lot of going out to the local islands and fish and do a lot of trolling too. Best fuel consumption? Best and the most reliable? Longest lasting? Best Warrantee’s? After Market Warrantees or the Yamaha extended offer?

Where are some of the places you buy your motors from? I know we have discussed Ed’s Marine Superstore but are there other places to buy motors and accessories and parts like Ed's offers? What other vendors do you know of that I should be contacting for Engines, accessories, fuel management systems, fuel filters systems, cables, props and other stuff needed to put a complete power system together for my new boat?

Thank you in advance for you advice,

BAZ...

Andy at SIM (Shipyard Island Marine)--he is a sponsor on THT. I haven't bought anything from Ed's, but I don't know if you can get better customer service than from Andy.

I have an F225 Yamaha on my 23' Contender, and have been very pleased. It has performed the way I thought it would. A good friend has a 200 HPDI on a 236 Sailfish. He gets slightly better fuel economy than I do, but then he has to buy two stroke oil. The oil changes on the F225 are no big deal. I change my oil and filter every 100 hours, even though Yamaha says to replace the filter every 200 hours. Speed wise, our boats run within 2MPH of each other, with mine being the faster. I've put 370 hours on my 2003 F225 bought in 2004, and my friend has 600 hours on his 2004 200 HPDI. The only problem I've had, is a rectifier/regulator went out, but was covered under warranty. The problem my friend has had is a clogged filter that the dealer couldn't figure out. The Yamaha tech figured out the problem after being on the boat 10 minutes.
Another friend has a 200 HPDI on a 23' Contender. He's on his third power head. Problem has been no oil to one cylinder. It was a different cylinder both times.

Take a look at the F-250..not much difference in fuel consumption from the F-225..and a little more hole shot performance. their first year performance regarding reliability has been stellar. Any of the engines you mention will be a fine addtion..
