Anyone with any information on this boat? I have a friend looking at them. I've looked them up on the internet but haven't seen one first hand, or can find many articles on them. Before I voice my impression I would like some input from someone with first-hand knowledge
Just looked at two last week in NJ. Nice boats, but very disapointing in the fit and finish area. Fighting lady yellow model at dealer looked like a ten year old did the caulking job, both around the console and between bracket and the transom. Seat cushions not very good quality. When you looked down the side from the transom, a noticeable line in the gel coat was visable, almost like it had two foot added to the rear of the boat. Not sure what it was, but it would worry me. On the other hand a white model, (looked like it was more recently made, although both were '05 models), was caulked nicely and had no flaws in the gel coat. Also had a hard top, which was much nicer than the weblon top on the yellow model. Great lines, but not as "finished"as a Regulator, or the Southport I saw two days later.
SteveBaz - 8/1/2005 11:04 PM http://www.davisboats.com/davisboats.htm They are now Davis boats and the sons run the company. They have great looking and very sea worthy boats for sure if you can afford them. BAZ...
Wrong company.......here is a recent review of the 28.** The boys are responsible for making the small CC but Buddy Davis is still running his company in NC.
Thanks for all your input, but it doesn't sound like many people have actually taken a sea trial on one.
I've seen the pictures and it is a good looking boat. I don't believe they achieved the market they are shooting for yet, the boat seems to need a little more attention to detail, especially for the $$$ they want.
I own the 28 Davis and love it. The ride, finish, and quality are awesome. I have fished several center consoles in my day and feel that the Davis is one of the best riding CC on the market. The first few 28 that came out did have a few finishing issues but they have corrected those items and the boats that they are putting out since them are flawless. The only reason I’m selling mine is to upgrade to the 34CC. Last weekend I fish with a buddy that is a 26 Regulator owner and he was very impressed with the ride and was impressed with the amount of fishing room he had. Fished in a 3-4ft chop and came home dry. If we would have been on his boat all he keep saying was how wet we would have been. Don’t get me wrong, I fished his boat several times and it also is a great riding boat.
Everybody is getting into the 30+ CC game, Davis most recently with the 34'......any rumors on Southport or Regulator putting out a bigger boat? I hear rumors about bigger outboards (350-400hp) being introduced at the Miami Show Feb 2006........how sweet would that 34' Davis be with twin 400's!
Looked at the BD in ernst, but was turned off by the bracket. It made the boat seem out of proportion. Went with the 28 Southport and love it. Ride, fit, finish, and fishability all excellent. Southport plans eventually to build a 32CC.

They have one in the water at Pirates Cove . . . there is a yacht sales team there, I forget their name (Hutchinson?) . . . call Pirates Cove (OBX, Manteo, NC) and get their phone number . . . ask about a test ride . . . I saw them in 3 footers and they seemed to be having a great ride . . . they passed me and I was doing about 25 knots
