Default To disconnect or not disconnect gas lines at motor?

I have been given conflicting advice about disconnecting the gas line at the motor of my 1997 120 HP Force OB when trailering. The engine is carberated if that makes any difference and uses gas/oil mix from a fixed and vented tank.

One guy says do it to avoid gas siphoning from the carbs? Doesn't seem to make sense due to the fact that the engine is above the tank. Others say don't worry about it and just disconnect at the end of the season, although I'm not sure it even matters then.

I'd rather just leave it connected since I can then avoid all of the mess and clean up.

Opinions?

mine doesn't have a disconnect, no problems to date. On our 25 4 stroke merc we regularly unhook it because we use the boat in a pond fairly often, and like to get the tank out of the way when just using the trolling motor.
