Mine idles at about 600, but in gear at 600, it rattles and vibrates. Sounds like an old 2 stroke (No bashing here...just the truth). At about 750 and up rpm, that vibration clears right up. Techs say it is normal for that motor. Can I adjust that idle with eth screws up to say...800 rpm? Or is it have an idle air control valve like a a car's FI? Difference in boat speed at 600 to 800 rpm is negligent.
Mine does the same thing at times, but not others. There is some post regarding this vibration on THT and some reported fixes as well.
I think it was Stonoman that said Seel's outbaord fixed his; I asked the same tech he referred to me to look at it and he didn't know what I was talking about.
I may take it to another dealer; It should be under warranty at ANY dealer, right? ( I men no cost to me)
I'm going to call Yamaha tomorrow and ask them if my motor is subject to the throttle plate recall. I did some research, and this seems to be the vibration issue.
My motor used to have an intermittent vibration when in gear, at the lowest rpm (which is 600 by the way). But the vibration problem has cleared up. Well, almost. It still occurs, but only for the first minute or two after backing off the throttle going from higher speeds, down to trolling speed. Aside from that brief period, it runs extremely smooth. I only have about 60 hours on my engine at this point. And for approximately the first 1/2 of those hours, it had the intermittent vibration while I was trolling (which is 600 rpm when your trolling for Walleye). But back in mid-June, I shut the thing down in the middle of the day, switched batteries, and when I restarted, it puked carbon out of the exhaust. Since then, the intermittent vibration is gone, except for like I said, only a minute or two after initially backing off the throttle. My motor was a leftover 2003, that I purchased new, late last year. It was on a demo boat with 7 hours on it. There was a 1/2 tank of gas when I purchased the boat. Who knows how old the gas was. Perhaps a year-and-a-half old. I topped off the tank (and stabilized fuel) when I was bringing the boat home after taking delivery in mid-November of last year. Before I took it out for the first time this year (1st weekend of May), I dumped 4 cans of Seafoam in the tank. My best guess is that the Seafoam cleaned the carbon out and that cured the vibration. But I don't know for sure.

I called Yamaha and they said there are no TSB or recalls that apply to my motor for the vibration issue, and urged me to take it back to my selling dealer.
If they couldn't find it or fix it twice, what makes me think they won't even look for it a 3rd time?
With 350 hours mine ran fine until a few weeks ago. Suddenly anything lower than 1100 rpm's became a problem. The engine sounded bad and vibrated like crazy. I had it serviced at the marina I dock at and bought the boat.
They told me that a bolt on the intake manifold was loose. Now, things are back to normal.
I'm experiencing the same problems with my Mercury 225 EFI 2 stroke. At 550rmp the motor runs fine, but below that
it spits, sputters vibrates rough; it almost cuts off. Also, I have lost 400rmps off the top end of 5800. I slow troll at 600rmps, but its becomes a problem when coming to the dock. The motor is the shop. Waiting on the results.
