Random Quote: If you can go home and pull a $100 bill out , and flush it down the toilet, and if that doesn't bother you, then go ahead and buy a boat truthful words spoken by my outboard mechanic!!!!!!
I have heard on this forum that Techron is similar or does something similar. A local marine store "spokesman" claimed that PRI-G was better ('course, he was out of RingFree) and ValvTec claims to remove carbon or inhibit carbon deposits. Seems like a lot of chemistry.
I want to use the stuff, but would rather not dump snake oil through those thirsty 12 cylinders.
I have often found ring free at other yama equipment shops i.e. the bike shops or snowmobile/sled shops (not applicable in your locale ) !
BTW they also had the silicone protectant, the fuel conditioner, etc ( I checked my manual ref #'s with the shelf product #'s and they jiibed). The guys at the bike shop kinda bummed on the idea of ordering yamalube for just me ( oh they had 'lube but I didn't see they tcw-III label on it).
Here's a tip for ya, when ya do find Ringfree, buy a whole bunch of it, then ya won't be looking for it again!!
I'm in the same situation. Can't seem to locate the stuff easily. I have not exhausted my sources and will keep trying. I was very recently told by a Yami factory rep (mechanic, not sales) that ringfree is indeed techron. I am considering a visit to the local Chevron and hope to get some more info from this post.
A whole bunch of the stuff, like several treatments, would be big bucks from what I can tell. According to the label, if you're running big v-6's, the shock treatment amount was like 2 ounces per gallon for a minimum of like 20 gallons (that's by memory). Then you have to double the amount of gallons treated for twins.
That works out to like 80 ounces, roughly 8, 12 ounce bottles at $9 appiece. So $72 each treatment, but Birdman says I should stock up.
Where can we get this stuff in Bulk?
And Birdman, what the heck does MACHRI mean?
You should only do the "shock treatment" if you have a problem or something. Otherwise, one of those little bottles which costs about $8, is good for about 180 gallon (forget exact amount). I use a bottle per fillup. I have 210 gallon tank, but of course it's never empty, ussually about 50 gals left. I've saw it(RingFree) in 1 gallon cans for $75 at Accurate Marine in Bohemia.
Machri is the name of my Abaco. (A mix of Maria and Chris)
Ringfree is not the same as Techron, even though developed by the Orinite corporation, it was distinctly developed for two cycle water cooled engines. If you read the Techron label it distinctly says it's not to be used in two cycle air cooled engines. Even though it does not mention water cooled, I would not use it. I posed the Techron/Ring Free question to Oronite and received the repsonse that ring free was developed with two cycle commbustion chamber temperatures in mund. BTW, a 12oz bottle of Techron is only good for somewhere around 12 to 20 gallons for $8.00.
I have not tried it myelf, but Sea Foam claims to have been invented specifcally for outboards (http://www.seafoamsales.com/about.htm). Others on this board have used Sea Foam and if you check around the web some will call it a miracle cure !
