I saw this boat listed for sale and spoke with the owner. Like new condition and hardly used - Engine has 45 hours use on it with no problems. Reading here an d other places indicates 1999 175 Fichts should be avoided -- Don't know much about outboards as this would be a second fish/fun boat - Should I stay away from it -- I really don't want to buy a new engine.

Old Ficht, or new Ficht just forget them. For some reason BRP developed a new technology.

Buying a 5 or 6 year old boat and don't want to have engine concerns, buy one with a Yamaha. Select the engine first and then look at what is attached to it.

2002 and newer Ficth are very reliable, more so than the Yamaha at this point.
Do a search on Yamaha HPDI and get ready to be educated.

Yamaha is having problems with the big block HPDI (250 and 300 HP's) but the small block (150 to 200 HP) is bulletproof. Also, this guy is looking at a boat that is six year old. From that period there is only one outboard that I would consider, the OX66.

Wait for BRP to increase the production of the E-tec and the FICHT will die.

Thanks for the info guys. Would appear that I will continue to look. I have been looking at engines first as that it primarily what I am buying and the boat is the throw in. Nonetheless, I believe that it is a crap shoot to begin with. I have a 2003 Searay 320 Sundancer as my primary boat so this will be a fish/play boat so do not want to spend a fortune. Really appears that there are any number of center consoles and walkarounds that would fill the bill in the 20-25 foot range and under 20K in price and most of the newer say 8 years or so all have original engines so no warranty and buyer beware on all of them. I will make anotehr post on another one that really has my interest. Thanks again

Hello, I just read this thread and I am sure you have ourchased a boat since your posting however, I have a 1999 Seaswirl 21 cc with a Johnson Ocean Pro 150 that had about 120 hours on it when I purchased. I paid 9k for boat motor and trailer and I have put about 5k in upgrades to the boat and trailer. Very happy with this boat and especially the price...

Also, my Johnson (omc product) is one work-horse of an engine
