Default grady white marlin 28

i have a marlin 28 1990, i just bought 2 new 250 yamahas with 15 1/4 x 17propellers on it, and i tried it this weekend but i just had 5000 rpm on a full throtle and just ran 32mph and the grady white webpage says that they should give me on a a full throtle 46 mph, does anyone know what could be the problem???

Hope you didn't try to load up those nice new Yammis before breaking them in properly.

With a light to moderate load, the propellers should be selected (i.e. diameter and pitch) so that engines come up to the upper end of the rated RPM range. Based on what you wrote, the pitch is too high, but that doesn't seem right.

Is the boat heavily loaded, fuel, water, extra "stuff"?

Brian

Brians:
Im donig it exactly as the manual says i only ran for about one minute on that speed like the manual says it should be done and loaded? two adults and two children i dont think that is a lot of load, the water tank is olmost empty and only had like 100 gallons of fuel

If your break-in period is like mine, you are using 50:1 premix in the fuel tank, plus 50:1 that the engine injects, to get a 25:1 "break-in" mixture. Not surprising if everything doesn't run exactly perfectly under those conditions.

Why not wait until you get past the ten hour break-in, when you can have straight gas in the fuel tanks and you can run at WOT for longer periods. This will give you time to adjust engine trim, and trim tabs, to see what RPM you come up to. If it doesn't seem right under those conditions, then go back to the dealer and ask them to "read" the engine history to see what is going on.

Could mention it to the engine dealer now, to let them know you have a concern, before you get to a better testing time.

Good luck,
Brian

I have an 89 Marlin 28 with twin 93 225 Evinrude Ocean Pros. I have 15 X 17 props that put me at close to 40 MPH at 5500 RPM's. I would wait for the full break in to find out what you're getting. It could be the carb linkage needs to be adjusted.
