Default Grady 228 seafarer...offshore worthy???

I'm looking at a 2004 228 seafarer. Does anyone have any experience with this boat offshore? I am used to fishing offshore in small boats, but have no experience with this model. Thanks.

It would help to know what waters you boat in, but down here in the Gulf of Mexico, that boat's limits, IMHO, would be 20-25 miles in winds of 15 MPH or less. Would not purposely head out into seas that were forecast over 3 foot, but it would still get you in if they kicked up once you were out there.

I have a Seafarer 226 with a 200 Yam on a bracket and I take it up to 50 miles off Block Island regularly. We're always the smallest out there, but she goes fine on a calm day. I have 152 gallons in fuel, a 96 and a 56.

It's for sale...

I fise the gulf in a 22' center all the time now 3'ers are rough but I feel safe (closed transom). and our 3's are close spaced about 5-8 sec apart .... heck Last weekend a 31 bert was getting tosed like a bobber while on the hook and we drifted right past and were very stable....you will be safe ....John

You'll have to pick you days but that boat will do fine!! I had my old 20' Grady CC to the 26 Mile Hill out of Wachapreague earlier this year. We had good weather but the fishing sucked. The second day, things kicked up a bit and when we pulled in the lines we had about 15 miles to run into a quartering sea. I would say 3'ers. The boat did great!! I am confident the boat, and I, could have taken more, but with it being her first offshore trip, I didn't want to push it.

If I could get another descent forecast, I'd run out of Ocean City to the Hambone or the Dog in her, and that's 40+ miles.

It is definately offshore worthy. Range with std fuel will exceed 200mi W/HPDI or 4stroke. On a 208 went 40mi out of OI in 2-4ft seas several times. With engine on bracket it will perform like a 23ft. Do get the hardtop.
