What year is it? It's probably a good boat. It does contain wood in the transom and stringers so it should be thoroughly checked out. Here's a thread from a while back.
I had a 1988 model 20 ft Vector and it was one of the best riding 20 ftrs. I have ever been on. The only problem was it was very touchy and you really had to set it up right with tabs and trim. The combination of narrow beam, high sides and deep vee made it more like flying a plane than running a boat. That being said once you got the feel of it and set it up right it would eat the ocean up.
It was also heavy. I put a carb 225 Yammy on mine and it would only run in the low 40,s at WOT. I would also add it was not a great cruising boat. It really liked the open ocean better than cruising.
I currently have 2250 Vector. I can not say enough about this boat. It has a big attitude and can hold its own against any boat in the 22-24ft range. I will say that it is not the fastest(36knots w/200hp), but the ride more than makes up for it. I regularlly fish this boat 60+miles off of Charleston and have never had any problems with the boat. I am thinking about moving up, 2footitiss or something. If you are intersted in some performance numbers or any other info feel free to PM me or email me @ alexstone@islandrealty.com. I will be putting her on the market soon for $20,500 rigged to fish.
Funny that all 3 replies come from 2250 owners. Not many of us out there, even less 2000 owners! Islandboy, You have a CC or WA? Also, How much fuel do you burn round trip on one of those 60 milers? Is that the original 200 OMC? I run mine in the Chesapeake, and I'm thinking of Tuna fishing soon off of Maryland.
I agree with gmanoffshore. 20 ft Vector is one of the best riding 20 ftrs. Its a heavy, well made deep-v that will handle rough seas. Trim tabs are needed. I would want at least 200hp. If you spend most of your time in the ocean, great. If most of your boating is in skinny water, may be overkill.
I have a 1990 Vector 2000CD (cuddy model). It's an extremely solid boat that acts much "bigger" than it's 20'6" length. I have consistently fished between 30 and 50 miles offshore in the Gulf and always felt secure. Mine has a 225 Johnson and it will get after it...
I have about 10 friends looking to buy a Hydra 20'CC. That is one heck of a find. Great ride even if the integrated transom cuts down on overall interior space. The new 202DC is based on that hull design, but without the beefed up build process. Those 20 footers were 35K when new in 1998-1999!
I rode in the 202DC and am kicking myself for not saving the dough and buying it. What double down says is on the nose, the new 202DC is basically the boat you are talking about and it is simply the best ride on the market in that size range.
Not sure why they aren't selling a 20 or 21 footer in the CC model based on that hull, it would be the best buy on the market.
If the boat is in good shape at a good price and it passes a survey, jump on it.
Maestro we usually burn about 80-90 gallons. We burned 103 one time when it got real nasty and we had to stuff the bow the whole ride home(67miles). I have a floscan so I can watch my fuel burn and adjust accordingly. She does like to run on the fast cruise--the ride @ 30-31knots is just about perfect but the fuel burn stinks. She is a CC with a 1999 200 ficht. No problems with this engine only minor repairs and the usual stuff. I know I am going to kick myself for selling her but it is time to move up!
Maestro, I just got my Navman calibrated and made a long run from Ocean Isle to Fryng Pan tower. Total run 127 statute miles round trip running and trolling. Navman read 55 gal./ act. used at pump fillup 54, for 2.35 mpg. This is with the 226 OX66 that I repowered with back in the spring. Very flat day with only a little tab to keep the nose from bouncing.
I know this was off topic but you were asking the other poster about fuel burn on his 2250 so I thought I would chime in.
