Default Putting a Tonneau cover on your truck. What a nightmare.

I picked up a Titan Crewcab 4wd three weeks ago and wanted to get a tonneau cover for it, mostly for trips and not wanting to worry about my gear when in the bed. I didn't want a hard tonneau or hinged frame top since it would be in the way when not in use and I liked the soft rollup style. Since I will use the bed once in a while to haul stuff, I only looked at no drill kits when I looked on-line and the lund genesis tri fold cover fit my needs. Lunds site lundinternational.com gave the model and listed it as working with my model with the utility bed package on two styles so I picked it up locally using by friends business for jobber price. It didn't fit with the utility bed package and even the auto parts store listing lists it as working. They offered another version of the same bed and it didn't work either. When I spoke to lund directly they said that none of their covers work with any utility bed packages. Nice of them to make it known to the public.

So now I spend about an hour on the computer checking tonneau covers and found a web site that sells tonneau covers that has if they work with the utility bed package or not, they list the access brand as working and I contact them to see if they are cheaper than local and even call accesscover.com directly to see if they work with the utilty bed package. They tell me it works and tell me that there is additional materials and instructions in the kit for it to fit the utility bed package. So now I take the other kit back and now pickup my third tonneau cover from the stores warehouse. The counter man there now knows me by a first name basis. When I open the kit I find out that the additional materials are ten sheetmetal screws and instead of using the clamps or brackets they tell you to drill your bed to install the kit. From experience I know that in a few years here in the rust belt it will cause long term problems and pass on the kit. Ironically the kit was listed as a no drill kit.

Last night I spent another hour going through the net and found truxedo tonneau covers as working and they don't drill your bed to work with the utility rails. They use brackets. It's the truxedo low pro kit. Best of all they show the complete installation directions on line and even include if you have the utility bed package. 99% of their kits are no drill and work with utility bed packages. Their site is truxedo.com

Best of all it only took a few minutes to install this morning and was cheaper than the other three with a lifetime warranty. I actually took a dozen donuts to the auto parts store today when I picked up the top for being a pain in the arse with the returns. It worked out and I even got 10% better than jobber.

Ironically when I called one of the companies and asked about their tonneau they actually told me to take the utility rails off. Why would I spend that kind of money on the package to remove it.

I bought one of these for my F-250. Not sure if they make one for your bed, but its a great compromise between a hinged hard top and a roll-up soft top. With a locking tail gate everything is secure, and you can still get tall stuff in the bed by folding the cover open.

I bought a roll up style that works for what I need. No holes not that I cared but it was not cheap by any standard. It was from Pace Edwards and the model is The Jack Rabit. Not sure if they make one for those in between trucks or not.

It won't work with the utility package

It makes you take off the front half of the side tiedowns.

I already picked one up and installed it.

I have a Titan Crew Cab as well. When I bought my truck last year tonneau covers where not available from Nissan, but they now are. I had my Dealer put one on this spring. It works great and it does not interfere with any of the rack systems. I went ahead and paid them $124 in labor to install it. The cover itself was $335. Just an FYI.
