Squeaky 225HP Yamaha 4 Stroke

I have a pair of 2003 225HP Yamaha 4 strokes. At idle one of the motors has started making a squeaking noise, especially after the motor has been run for a bit (its not overly loud but clearly audible as the outboards are so darned quiet). The best way of describing the noise is to compare it to a car with a slipping fan belt (but not as loud as that). Any ideas as to what might be causing this? And is it likely to be expensive to remedy? Thanks!

IT IS ABOUT TO BLOW UP!!!!

Just kidding...

Simple solution...spray some silicone lube on the shaft where it is exposed under the cowling. There is a rubber grommet there that gets dry and squeels for attention.

Hi Guys,

I have the same problem with my F115. I looked at the picture from the ealier thread, but I don't seem to have that hex head nut to help me navigate to where the shaft is. Don't know where to apply lube.

Anybody able to help me find this squeak?

Welcome to the club. My Port F200 started squealing this weekend. will try the lube fix.

I did it last month on my f225. Worked great. No more squeak.

This was a timely thread for me, my 225 black Yamahas started this yesterday.

This is mentioned in a service bulletin from a few years ago. They changed the driveshaft bushing in the midsection, just above the water pump. This is on 25" shaft motors. See a dealer.
