Default fiberglass repair

I have a small chip (size of a quater) on a corner of my fiberglass boat. I think its called the gell coat, now the fiberglass its self is exposed. I don't even know how it happened! Its located in the back of the boat above the batterey compartment (not in the water) This is my first fiberglass boat and I have no idea how to fix it and should I be concerned? I have a pic to send if anyone needs to see it.

Thanks for your help
