Default question about 1991 120hp Johnson

Any feedback on this engine? I'm thinking about picking up a used boat and this is what is hung on the back...I have a 1992 90hp evinrude on the back of my current boat and am hoping it's from the same family of engines...

Thanks and have a great day...

Don't know much but my father in law has a late 70's 120HP Johnson still kicking and doing quite well.

they are a v-4 loop charged engine & are very reliable.with that said you still need to get a tech to check it out

Thanks for the input...one of the things I was planning to do was have a survey done on the boat...you can never be too careful...I was hoping it was build like my 90hp evinrude...My guess is it is...

Thanks again...

I have a 87 Johnson 120 with about 800 hours on it. Knock on wood I've had no major problems and still trust in to go 20-30 miles out. It's smokey and drinks gas but it still runs strong.

My mechanic thinks the '91 120 along with the '94 Johnson 150 have the best powerheads ever built. I have the '94 and absouletely love it. I'm sure this is debatable but at least it's food for thought.

Thanks for the input guys...it made a difference...judging from what I've read about this vintage engine, they are very well built but thirsty! The engine is hung on a 1991 Boston Whaler Outrage...Turns out it looks like that will be my new boat! I talked with the owner over the phone today and early next week we'll be sealing the deal! Now I'll have to have it surveyed, you can never be too careful, even with Whalers!

Thanks a bunch for the help!
