Default 1986 mercruiser slow cranking?

1986 mercruiser 5.0 i just rebuilt it. motor fires but wont start. motor is cranking slow and connections on the battery get very hot. i think my stater is drawing to much current. it is a bad starter motor?

Is it timed right loosen distributer and turn slightly see if u can time it better

Timing isn't going to make it turn slow.You need to fully charge the batteries and put a meter on the cables and see what the starter is drawing. If you keep cranking without letting it set that will heat up the cables.

A bad starter will cause slow cranking. I replaced the starter on my last boat for slow cranking and the difference was night and day.
