I am purchasing a boat in Florida and I am considering running it up the coast from Stuart to Manasquan, NJ. Can anyone share your thoughts on this journey or show me where to go to get more information? I'm interested in how many miles can I expect to do each day, best places to spend the night, waterways/inlets to avoid, etc. I am allocating a week for the trip so I expect to travel via open water. The boat is a 29 blackfin SF. I'm getting quotes for shipping but I'm expecting that number to be high becuase I need to factor in the cost for the removal/installation of the hardtop.
My place in FL is next to Sundance Marine in Jensen Beach, and just down the street from Skippers boat hauling... Clueless to the cost of what you need, and the quality of the aforementioned companies. Just giving you names to look at on the shipping senario, I know they do what you're looking at doing..
I'm also looking for quotes to transport a 27 Blackfin to NJ. My tower is designed to breack above the hardtop so removal is bit more affordable. My guess is it would be a lot cheaper to have it brought up via water either by yourself or a transport company. One company I contacted , Atlantic Crew Service 401-486-1933, provided this service.
Let me know how you make out. I'm getting a survey done tomorrow and if all goes well I will soon be making plans myself. I am considering bringing it up and I'm beginning the research phase and looking for input from those that have done it. for me it would be a 1200 mile journey across FL to Stuart then north either outside or ICW if it gets messy. Trucking is fast but there are so many other costs such as rigging and refueling mt tanks. I'm not also fond of cutting and splicing radar/radio/gps cables.
Why don't you ask your local marina for a Licensed captain in your area that does that. Check his references and take the ride with him. They usually get a fixed price per day plus all expenses. If your getting someone just make sure the guy is someone that will know where your coming from regarding type of weather your willing to endure, how hard he runs YOUR boat and the type of person he is. You will be living with him for a week! If done right it WILL be a great experience.
Good Luck
Oh by the way make sure your boat is in good mechaical shape with all saftey equipment up to date.
Have it trucked its so much cheaper & easier!, 3yrs ago i had my 31tiara trucked from plam bch county fla. her to Pt pleasant nj, WITH removal of the ttower, for $2,500, you cant beat it....gas wear & tear, time etc would cost more than that taking her up by sea!
