Random Quote: The South doe not need to rise again, the North is sinking in a more than adequate manner.
About 25 years ago my father owned a large center console fishing boat made by "North American" boats. He sold it after a few short years. The other day I believe I saw the same boat again after all these years. I don't recall ever seeing another one here on the gulf coast.
So far I have been unable to find any information on this boat builder. Unfortunatly Texas only keeps records of previous registrations for 10 years. If I can confirm this was my my fathers boat I may purchase it and restore it. It's in pretty bad shape right now, looks to have been sitting out in the weather for years.
Any information on this manufacture would be much appreciated.
I remember the name. My father owned one in the early 70's. I believe it was an S-19 or S-22. He liked it a lot. They were known to be good boats at the time. This link has a small photo.
North American Fiberglass built a lot of boats - the S-19, the S-22 and a 24 that I recall. All were express/cuddies, but they may have built a CC that I do not recall. They were built in either Tarboro, NC or Greenville, NC. They later built River Ox and Sea Ox boats IIRC. I think they are out of business now.
They were located in Greenville, NC, and yeah, they're out of business now. Iused to have an S-19. A good boat, just a little wet riding, and heavy as all get-out. Was a little under powered with the 88hp that was on it.
Gave it to my little brother who used it a few years and traded it in on a power cat. The boat is still sround though, I see it once in a while around Swan Quarter and Ocracoke. Has been repowered to a 115 and seems to run much better. I always liked the old tub, just had to give it up for reasons I'll not go into.
BTW, North American also made surfboards in the middle 60's. Used to have one of them too. Was nearly as haevy as the damned boat.....
My family had the 19 I/O version with 165hp Mercruiser. Remember that boat well. Had it in the mid to late 70's. Ran it all over Cape Cod in all conditions. It was a great boat. I remember seeing the same boat one day about five years ago still being used as a work boat in Sandwich, MA.
I had a 1980 C-22, which was their center console version. They also made a C-20 and a C-26 all CC boats, It was the same company that made the S-19,S-22 which were runabout models, they were very popular in S.Fla in the late 70's early 80's. The CC models featured the first(that I know of) delta conic hulls. Sea Bird made the same hull for a couple of yrs as well in the CC version, I liked mine a lot, sold it to move up, what else
North American Fiberglas Co, was owner of Sea Ox boats which became Sea Cat in "93 and was sold to World Cat later. I think someone in Arkanasas.had bought the molds but never really heard of the hulls again. Graham Flanagan was owner.
There was talk a few years ago of a Co in north NJ that had bought the molds at auction.
I believe some of the hulls were Ray Hunt designed.
The "North American" S-19 Sunchaser and S-22 Offshore were made by some company in Florida.
(for some reason I want to think in Hialeah but that may not be right).
They were NOT made by North American Fiberglass Co in Greenville, NC (Graham Flanagan's company) that did make the River Ox and Sea Ox boats.

Yea, I thought they were made in Fla., but i couldn't remember, Hialeah may be right, there were a lot of boat builders there in the 70's -80's, the CC models were sold for a while at a marina near 17th st causeway in Ftl. i went with a friend to pick up his new 1979 C-22, i liked it so much I bought a 1980 used, two years later, good boats, i think ray hunt designed the "delta conic" hull.
The S-19 and S-22 were popular here in NC in the early-mid 70's. In about 1981 I considered buying a S-22 with 165 Mercruiser that was being sold to satisfy a mechanics' lien for some obscenely small amount of money (I found out later that there were multiple liens on the boat and that it needed a whole new outdrive). IIRC they were well built boats.
On edit: I looked them up in the USCG MIC database. They were made in Ft Lauderdale. The company went out of business in 1981.
I have a 19 footer seen in my signature. Like it alot, but can be wet at times. Stuffed the bow a few times last Sunday following other boats wakes too closely, but all the kids had fun getting sprayed. With my 135 Evinrude it does really well.
It is built like a tank.
Looking to move up soon though

I'm pretty new to boating and have been hunting for some information.
I've recently inherited a North American S-19 and man is it hard to find info on this boat!
They were indeed made in Fort Lauderdale and not by the North American Fiberglass company.
The boat I have has an inboard/outboard Mercruiser Marine engine in it.
Does anybody out there still have one of these boats? Would love to connect with someone that does as I've got quite the bit of work to refurbish this one.

Bert.
I picked up one of these this year. It had sat outside uncovered for about 5 years. Obviously it needed some work. It is coming around though. Would love to share information/ideas on the reburb
