Default What's the best single bit of boating advice you ever received?

I think the best single sentence of advice I ever got about boating was the answer to "How big a boat should I buy?".

Someone said- "First figure out what you want to do with the boat, then buy the smallest sized boat that let's you safely do that thing."

The more experience I get, the smarter that advice seems to be. The guy was not saying buy a small boat, he was saying don't buy more than you need.

Find a boat that you are comfortable with and then add 6' and a hundred more horsepower.......

If you get in trouble while docking in tight quarters, PUT IT IN NEUTRAL!! don't try to drive it out.

There is no such thing as coming into the dock too slow.
