Question What's the best go fast flats boat?

What's the best go fast flats boat design for fishing, top speed, handling and some bar hopping/sandbars? I am leaning towards the Talon F20... Any issues with this hull or things you would change?

SCB is the fastest (80+)followed by lake and bay(high 70+and the sterling 22 mid/low 70s. The yellowfin 21 should be in this area as well.

"Best" is really in the eye of the beholder, right?
Is it Fit & Finish? Absolute top speed?
You decide what is best for you.
Ride 'em before you buy 'em.
Visit the factory to see build quality and details and then talk to owners vs sales guys.

I have run the YF 21 vs a 22 Sterling - both new 2011 250 SHO rigs. The YF smoked the Sterling by 4 MPH, tournament loaded. The YF had a 36V TM with 3 batteries on the bow and the Sterling had the TM stowed on the rear deck. The YF 250 SHO rig ran 74 mph lightly loaded, with TM on bow and batteries up front. YF 21 after 80 hours of hard running the snotty stuff on many occasions = zero stress cracks & great resale value.

Eric Simmons sells 4 SCB models in various configurations (TopCat, F-22, StingRay and Recon) with the 300 Merc powered F-22s and Stingrays running in the high 80s to mid 90s, depending on console height and placement - and the SCBs have a wide open fishing layout.

I know the Laniers are very fast light build rigs, yet the angled decks seem to be 'not so fisherman friendly' to my eye.

Good luck with your search.

Thanks for all the info I really appreciate it! Are all the scbs built off the Talon? The 21 or 22 bottom?

The Lake and Bay Boca Grande is my favorite for a "go-fast" flats boat. My neighbor has one with a 250 Opti and it runs 83+. They float in relatively shallow water for a 20' boat, an honest 10".

Give Mike at Performance Marine in Lake Placid, FL a call. He will have some info on the new Bullet flats boat. He's also an expert on the Lake n Bay hulls.

Lake and Bay. Had one, 200 Merc. 70 trimmed out and loaded. Most solid skiff I ever owned.

Lake and Bay is a more traditional flats boat than the LCB or SCB that was mentioned. Both of those are catamaran hulls. They will haul ass and take a chop, but how well can they be trolled (trolling motor)?

Can't imagine going 80+ on a flats boat, would be a lot of fun.

I agree with the above comments. Id also add the Action Craft 1890 FlatsMaster with a 200 on it and both the AC 2020 FlatsMaster and the 2002 AC FlatsPro with a 250 on each. Ive been on all 3 in the past and these things were all in the upper 60s no problem and took the chop like a champ. Fun stuff.
