Default Gas mileage improvment technique 15-35% better mpg

You guys see this article this is interesting to say the least I think I will try it in the wifes car first.
http://pesn.com/2005/03/17/6900069_Acetone/

Athough like they say an oz. per 10 gal of fuel will not hurt anything in the engine.
Peace

This is really, REALLY interesting.

I wonder what kind of results it would yield in marine outboard engines. I'd want to get more reassurance that it doesn't hurt anything internal to the engine though, not to mention our aluminum fuel tanks.

I had a '74 Jeep CJ-5 (Surplus Govt. Forestry Service) and we used to run it on the discarded acetone from a facility I used to work at, I did not mix it just straight acetone, gave the exhaust a sweet smell, it eventually burned out the sendind unit and rotted the gas lines from the inside out...other than that it ran great, I was convinced that I could even wizz in ther fuel tank and it would still run....

Thanks for the info! I'll try feeding some to our Dodge Cummins and see how she likes it. We average about 16mpg so 19 would be significant.

Acetone is a solvent for just about anything. I think I will let you try it first

Rubber and rubber byproducts (o-rings, seals, gaskets, etc.) are soluble in acetone and it does not take much to damage them - be careful!

There was something on here the other day about that.

I have an old '91 Grand Wagoneer (the one with woodgrain on the side) that i drive some, so I figured I try some acteone in it just to see. I had just filled up (20 gals),and put in 8 oz of pure acetone.

It drove like crap. Motor became hard to start, and got horrible gas mileage (even worse than normal). When it got back down to about a 1/2 tank (which doesn't take long at 8-12 mpg), i refilled with unleaded plus. No more gas experiments for me.

Obviously, ymmmv.

8 oz is way too much according to the article... 1 oz per 10 gallons... with 3 oz per 10 gallons being the max

The other article didn't give and exact a amount..it said a "few ounces" per 10 gallons. I figured a few could be four, so, in it went. (and all I had to measure was a container that said 8 oz) so it made sense at the time and after a few beers.

It ran like crap. I wouldn't do it again.

Joe
Me thinks you added too much go juice.
Interesting, don't think I'll throw any in the Cummings right away. Will be watching for other results!

Yeah..if I hadn't been about 3 beers into it, I'd never have put that crap in my gas tank.

Edit:

I saw Wiley's quote at the top of the page when I hit refresh:

Quotes: Here hold my beer, and watch this. (famous last words)

How appropriate was this?

Ever see Acetone eat plastic, I'll sit back and let you guys experiment if you do it, there are plenty of plastic parts in now days engines, not to mention what it will do to injector seals and engine seals! Notice the article says carb parts!!! Nothing about seals or any information after running for a long time then doing a tear down! He says it will not attack parts that are used in conjucntion with gasoline, but actually only states his little experiment! I spend to much $$ on my engines and cars to let an article of no substance make me use it!

This is old information. There are several solvents such as these that people will claim will improve horsepower and mileage due to the products ability to help reduce "knock" and there fore improve the octane. I learned all about them and what they will do (nothing really) on the Corvette forum. I never tried them in my own Corvette. I do not know that much about igition systems in motors. But the thing that always worried me was that if the claims were valid and they worked would it permit the electronic timing of the motor to advance to the point it would allow the motor to self destruct. Like they say, if it is to good to be true..............

I'll try it in the truck when I get a chance. But I wont be trying it in the boat. Acetone is a strong solvent and will wash the oil off the cylinder walls. Thats just not good for a 2smoker. I have tried it in the dirtbikes but wasnt looking for mpg's.

As for other herbs and spices, I have been mixing toluene into 93 pump gas on our dirtbikes for a long time now. Toluene does have a higher octane rating, but more importantly it is denser than gasoline so it packs a bigger bang. The guys with turbo cars have been running toluene blends for a long time for the increased octane. It's use got started with the formula 1 crowd.

I believe Toluene is a cancinogen and will have a very nasty efect on your liver too.
Good luck
