Random Quote: The solution to most problems is to first go fishing
Hate to go to negative side, but somebody might learn something...
My worst was a 17' McKee Southporter...dual console w/a 115 Johnny...only 20 gal fuel tank, motor GUZZLED it quick...but WORST thing was RIDE...that hull would BEAT the ever-livin' daylights outta ya ...salesman said she rides like a dream...turned out to be nightmare...this isn't bashin'...it's simply the truth from first-hand experience...example of well made poor design...was not sad to see that one leave behind someone else's truck...
I don't think they make that boat anymore and from what I hear, McKee's makin' real nice boats these days...
I've had four: Sears 12' aluminum V-hull, Tracker 16' Guide V-Special, Monark 18' center console, SeaPro 192 Dual Console.
They've all gotten me there and back. The Tracker was underpowered with a 35 Mariner, but other than that I have no complaints. I've more than gotten my money's worth of performance and fishin' fun out of all of them.

I had one of those McKees as well. I took it out once, then sold it. Made good money off it though. There's something good in most all boats. Then I had a Wellcraft Nova 20 with a Mercruiser 260 in it. It seemed I could never get to the end of the line fixing things on that engine. Lost good money on that one but had some fun with it.
I used to run a mid to lower 80's 26 foot Rabalo Pilothouse with twin 225's. It was a patrol boat and it always ran leaning to one side or the other (trimming did not matter) the hull was rounded at the rear and the boat rolled to one side or the other. It also pounded like crap. At night if you were around lights the glare off the glass was horrid..Terrible boat..

Worst wasmy first boat. I was 18, I swapped my dune buggy with a blown motor for it. A homemade 17' plywood garvey with a chrysler 383 engine, direct drive no trans!... I used it about 15 times, the SOB shoulda sank from the weight of all the extra NAILS holding it together. We had to tighten it up every time we took it out. LOL, We did have fun with it tho....
197? Winner Cuddy w/135 Johnson, which was a bored out 115hp, I was told. Prone to cooking if on heavy boat. It did. Just after handing previous owner the money, he said,"I always hated that boat."
20Ft Chrysler Hydro-V Cuddy with 135HP Chrysler OB. This boat pounded bad in 2ft in the Chesapeake. Eventually the hull cracked and it could be seen that the resin to glass was not uniform thru the layers and it was only about 3/8" thick below the waterline!
Hullslap:
I had one of those Sea Kings. Don't recall theyear but it had a 1970 Johnson 40 hp on the back. Talk about an unstable POS! I was out one day and the motor blew. Got towed back in. I gave it away the next day!
My worst boat is the one I currantly own. It is a 2005 Action Craft Coastal Bay. Only because it has been sitting next to my house with no motor on it and I have to look at it every day.
I bought a cottage in 2002. The gentle old man that sold me the cottage convinced me to purchase hius "perfectly" maintained Thundercraft tri-hull, puke green boat with a VRO engine. The first year, it sank while sitting at the Marina dock. The transom had litterally rotted and fell off. I never did call the older man as I figured "buyer" beware. However, it really was a bummer ... we loved the boat as well. Despite the flaws, it had character.
It was so ugly, we called it "TRULY HIDEOUS". A year ago, a friend of mine came up to visit with a little beater that he has ... when he arrived ... he showed me a surprise ... he called his boat "partially hideous" and had signs painted on the side of his boat (laugh). His boat is still floating.
25' of the worst ride I've ever had...It plowed bad, the ride was horrible (offshore gulf of mexico) *and if you had to work on anything you'd better have some patience...They were built as if you'd never have to replace even*a hose.....Had some delamination problems at the bow on the liner also.
The only thing I did liked was the cockpit size (plenty of fishing room) and when I got rid of it...everybody wants a Grady!!
