Default yamaha 225 water pump replacement

I'm thinking of trying to do a water pump replacement on a '99 Yamaha 225 OX. I have the kit w/ impeller, wear plate, gasketes, etc. I have done this on older Johnsons w/ no problem. In searching this forum for info I see lots of advice about making sure all of the bolts are removed but I have found nothing related to disconnecting the shift rod. I assume this needs to be done, right? is there anything I should look for, do/don't do, when dealing with the shift rod? any help is greatly appreciated.

Bluestreak,
There was a post just the other day on this with photos, I am sure your search probably turned it up...there was something in that thread about the shift cables...I do not remember exactly...I was planning to search it later, need to change the pump on my 150 2 stroke Yammie. Let me know if you cannot find it and I will search as well....It may have been in the Capt's Corner.

Blue,

There is nothing to disconnect on the shift rod. It has a malefemale splined shaft type joint. When you drop the lower they just slide apart. Much easier then the OMC styles.

Leave the shift in nuetral and when installing the lower make sure the gear case is in nuetral as well. Aslo watch out for the pitot tube connector when removing. The speedo tube needs to be cut right above the fitting when its low enough to get at. Don't try and remove the tie straps and pull the hose off........most of the time you just end up breaking this fitting because its plastic.

THTer "NGFSX" posted a "how to F225 water pump replacement" with pictures on the Captains Clubs side of the THT. I am not puttting any pressure on you to join but you have to be a donater to view the thread.

Andy

btw........welcome to the THT!!
