And it't not going down anytime soon may never be below $2 a gal again.

Interesting I was watching CNN or something and since the public has started buying more fuel efficient cars the number of Gallons purchased has gone down and now the Government is loosing money from the tax on gas, they want to put a different kinda of tax on it or automobiles to help with road repairs etc. No way to win on GAS prices.

Crude down $1.50 a barrel from yesterday, which was maybe a buck lower than the all time high. It may not go back to $42 where it was not that long ago (after an earlier high of $55) but I predict that it will go down some more.

5 mpg cruising... is that correct... that seems really high... I haven't heard of anyone getting more than 3.5 mpg

Even if true, 90% of the posters on this board would say that the boat is underpowered as it only has a 150hp on a boat rated for 200hp max.

I get 7 or 8 mpg in my 17 Whaler at a slow cruise with a Honda 90. I'll be using it a lot this summer.

No kidding....I'm also underpowered, since I have a 225 I/O in my Formula, lol.

However, I get great gas mileage, even though it takes me a little bit longer to get there!

Time I have more of than $$$

6.3 @ 3500 rpm to be exact. I've never heard of anyone putting a 200 on this boat. Most that have it say 200 is overkill. I think most are sold with a F115 according to the dealer.

"I think most are sold with a F115 according to the dealer."

None of those people would dare post here. They would be lambasted for being so foolish as to buy a boat that THT posters would judge to be underpowered. The theory here (again by 90% or so of posters) is it is either max powered and if not then it is underpowered.

By the way I drive an underpowered (at least as judeged on THT) boat. No knock intended but the boss of this site is a speed guy, many of the new to boating people learn a lot of their boating here and it is not surprising that speed rules here.

True story: a poster here not long ago couldn't fit a 36 foot boat in his slip and was going to have to settle for a 34 footer. He was terribly disapointed because the builder couldn't fit four outboard engines on the back of that boat and would have to settle for 3 engines of 250hp each or so. Condoloences were handed out to this guy for the tough break in life (3 engines rather than 4), perhaps more than some people receive for the death of a close relative.

HA! If you think this is bad...ask what you truck you need to tow a 17 ft skiff.

You'll be buying a dually diesel 4x4 Topkick at your local GMC dealer in about 5 posts.

LOL

Seajay, my top-builder has a 24' Carolina Skiff "Semi-V" with a 90HP on it. He takes it 104 offshore LOL. Think he'd get himself laughed at here?

Funny thing is that boat has caught more fish and bigger fish than most ever will LOL.

I've said it plenty of times, but even more-so now...."I'm glad to have a single reliable screw".

I have heard that my '96 Burb 1500 with Vortec 350 and Tow Package isn't capable to tow a 7000# rig.

Funny, my grandparents used to tow a huge Airstream trailer from here (RI) to Florida, and all over the country with a 70-something Chrysler 4-door sedan LOL. That's how it was done for decades.

I'm way under powered I guess. 120 hp on a 26 ft CC?? I guess ones wallet is what really determines what is under powered.. I do have 500 miles of range though!

I was going to get a 24' cruiser last year. After reading on here how my Jeep Grand Cherokee with a V-8 might explode after hooking it up to the cruiser, I decided I better get a bigger vehicle to tow it with. So I bought a year old Tahoe with the 5.3 and 26K miles. I towed my 18 ft Scout with it about 3-4 times, and burned up the transmission. I found out after I bought it that it had the little rear end gear, and that it only towed as much as my Grand Cherokee would! I traded it in on an '04 Durango Hemi. By this time, the dealer with the cruiser sold it. That's ok..according to some on here cruisers would be in a glut this year, and I could pick one up for nothing. This was in September to Oct. So after looking for a used Cruiser for the same price for 6 monthsfor the same price I was going to pay for the NEW cruiser last year..all I found was that prices had gone up. Unless you wanted to buy a 5 year old piece of junk. So I got rid of the Durango, it's horrible gas mileage and high payments, and bought another older Grand Cherokee that's paid for and gets about 23 mpg.

Moral? Don't beleive EVEVERYTHING you read. Since then, I have noticed that when anyone starts any sentence with "trust me, I know.." or "You'll be sorry if you..." that they probably don't have a clue as to what they are talking about.
