Default 2004 Cobia 184 CC specs Vs Sea Hunt

I am trying to find the specs on a 2004 Cobia 184 CC. The 2005 is new with different specs so the brochure I picked up at the AC show does not list the specs for last years model. I am looking at a leftover 184CC with a bottom price of $16k. It has a Yamaha F115 and trailer. Otherwise, it is a standard boat with no options. I am also looking at a Sea Hunt 186 (18'6"/93" beam) with the same motor, and some minor options such as flip/flop cooler seat/ full bow rail, raw water wash down with a trailer for $18k. I have to drive about 5 hours for the Sea Hunt and about 1.5 hours for the Cobia. Any thoughts?

I searched the forum on Cobia and found nothing on the 184 CC. Should this tell me something?

I can't offer a whole lot of suggestion, but here goes. I went out last summer on essentially the same boat (185, with 2 stroke yamaha 115). Overall, pretty nice boat. I thought it needed tabs (then again, most boats do benefit from them). To me, that price sounds pretty good. MSRP on a 2005 with F115 looks to be around $25k (although I'm sure you could get it for less).

As far as Sea Hunts go, I've heard lots of great things about them, but never been on one. It is, however, high up on my list of boats to look at next.

Good luck,

Eric

Thanks! Just can't make up my mind if I want to drive 5 hours for the Sea Hunt at $18k or 1.5 hours for the Cobia at $16k.

Run NRhino,
I guess I am a little biased as I take delivery tomorrow on a Sea Hunt 202 with the F115 and I have no experience with the Cobia's personally. I will say that the SH's have a great reputation for being an excellent value and the hull designs are very salty with a history born from mako and grady. As for the distance issue, are you concerned about the drive to purchase or service after the sale. If it is service check with SH and ask if they have an authrorized service guy in your area. It's 4 hours to the dealer I am purchasing from but SH has a dealer with a factory agreement to handle warranty issues where we will keep the boat.

RunNRhino,
I've owned 2 Sea Hunts and loved both of them. Good boats. However, I have a customer who is on his 3rd Cobia and has had good experience with them as well. Of course, I'm sold on Sea Hunt, but have to admit the Cobia seems to be a good boat.

in 1999 when I was looking my first boat it actually came down to Sea Hunt or Cobia. I chose the Sea Hunt mainly due to seating arrangement at that time Cobia did not have rear seats and I have a family of five.

Having said all this, put the pros and cons on paper and see which one fits your needs and likes. I don't think you'll go wrong with either.......................but I do love my Sea Hunt.

Good Luck
