Default Aluminum Pop Rivets

Hey guys,

Need a little help. I am in the middle of restoring an older canoe for duck hunting and I need to find some specially sized aluminum rivets for the seats. My local hardware stores only carry 3/8's inch rivets in lengths up to 5/8's of and inch long. I need at least 3/4's and 7/8's would be the best. I only need 16. Is there a reliable place here on the web to find these?

Thanks!

i just checked my McMaster Carr & Grainger catalogs, neither had any that long, or do you mean that they need to be 3/4 diameter. If you are after lenght, you may consider stainless toggle bolts rather than rivits.

I need 3/8" Diameter with 3/4" or greater (to 1") length. I know they make them cause aluminum boat manufacturers use them. They just aren't a standard size. 5/8" is usually the longest you can find.

I don't want to use toggle bolts. They would definitely detract from the otherwise beautiful fit and finish of my little canoe! Plus they are insanely expensive (compared to pop rivets). Thanks!

Where are you located, I have rivets 3/8 in head and from the outside head of the rivet to the end of the rivet shaft not including the nail that pulls through is 3/4 inch. Will these help?

Located in eastern North Carolina. 3/4" would be the smallest I could use. Are your rivets all aluminum?

Try the NB Handy Company in Raleigh, NC. If they do not have the rivets then they can direct you as who does. Find them on the net... HVAC & Roofing wholesalers

You could try to search for KLIK-FAST on google or use rose head copper boat nails and roves. Jamestown Distributors is one place pros go for wooden boat fastening needs.

Frank, Thanks for the help, I'll contact them, but I'm really looking for a place to order online. I'm a ways away from Raleigh. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I know someone here knows!

Jack, I'll make sure to check out Jamestown, thanks!

Wait a min. What size rivit's do you need? I think your talking about the size of the head being 3/8in. What is the shank dia. size? That's what you need to know. IE what size hole will they go in?

They are usually 1/8, 3/16 and it can go up, but you need a special pop rivit gun for them. That gun has handles 2ft long or longer.

Also, when you talk about the "length" of the rivet, it is usually specified as "grip length". This is the amount of "usable length.
Just my 2 cents worth.

Josh,
My rivets are aluminum, 3/16 diameter but the length overall of the aluminum is 3/4 with the top button. I do not think they are what you are looking for.

Best Distributing in Goldsboro may have what you need, but I'm not sure if they sell to the public. Mostly to contractors. Also, many of the towns in eastern N.C. have Fastenal stores. They should have it,although you may have to buy a pack of 100.

Grainger has them, but only in 100 packs. I only need 16 . Guess I'll step up if I can't find anything else. Best won't sell to a lowly citizen such as myself. I'll check Fastenal today. Thanks for the help guys!

Josh, I have some 3/16 X ¾ marine grade alum pop rivets in the shop. Have maybe 20 or so left from a box of 100. If you can use some let me know……PS: If you want to buy a box and sell me half, that might work………..I can always stand to have some “spares”….
