Random Quote: CAPTAIN...one SMART enough to drive a boat and STUPID enough to think it's important!
225 from 250 is 25. If it were 50 hp different then I would think it would be a 275. I have a pair of F225's and they are a great pair. Don't know about the 250 but 25 hp can make a difference.
I think kid stuff was implying that the f225 generally dynos around 209hp at the propshaft, whereas the f250 is closer to 260 at the shaft.* I can't point you to original sources, but a couple of dealers at the Miami show indicated this to me.

Peter,
I have a pair of F225s and they work great. The boat is over 10k pounds. and runs in the 40mph range. Great mileage also.
Do you have a brother John in Va Beach....? Tom
PETE,
OUR KIDS GO TO THE SAME SCHOOL AND WE SOMETIMES BOAT TOGETHER, THEY ARE A TERRIFIC FAMILY... AM TOLD MY WIFE THAT JOHN WENT TO FL TO LOOK AT A BOAT, AND I DIDN' REC THE MAKE. SO WHEN I SAW THIS I FIGURED IT WAS A RELATIONSHIP... TOM
Pete: I have an F250 on a Grady 258. The variable valve timing definitely gives more of a push in the mid-range. You can feel the difference. Also, I get about 4 mph more on top end compared to what Yamaha publishes for my boat with a 225. Fuel economy on the F250 seems to be at least as good as the 225. I'm taking a trip to the Keys next week, by water, about 130 miles, so I'll get a better feel for that. So far I have 46 hours on the motor. I hope to say that it is as reliable as an F225 when I have 500 hours.
I forgot to add that the F250 does require 89 octane gas.
