Hey jj, I have caught freswater gizzard shad and used them to make chum. I have also used them for bluefish and shark bait. However, i have never tried them live

Down here some people use shiners(freshwater) as bait for Snook and Tarpon in the saltwater/brackish canals.

there is a freshwater bait fish nicknamed something like black and salty ? any way they are supposed to fair well in the salt water, but that doesn't mean they will catch fish, it means they will live. I will try to look them up.

The "blacksalty" product is NOT legal as bait in
fresh water in California or Florida.

If they catch you using them down here, they'll put the cuffs on ya'.
