Evinrude Question

I have a 1980 Something Evinrude 5hp that has been sitting in the shed for 3 years. When I put it away it looked like the waterpump was in its way out ( spitting not peeing ). Since its been sitting idle for 3 years I wanted to get it up and running again. Its not the prettiest engine but it actually ran pretty damn good.

What should be the best action to take? I want to try and fix her up myself to save some coin. I only spent $200 on the motor at an estate sale so spending $4 or $500 to a mechanic doesnt seem a wise choice.

Is this a doable project? What do I need to do to the Carb? Is the water pump and easy job? ( Im not a master mechanic ). Anything else I should do?

Buy yourself a good manual on those engines. They are a terrific resource and actually show pictures of what you are looking at. The carb probably just needs a good cleaning. Not hard. The water pump is a fairly easy job but you have to take off the lower unit. The manual will walk you through each of these jobs.
