I'm thinking about purchasing two Yamaha 200 HPDI's from ED'S.
Having them shipped to FL. I called and they informed me, they have to ship to a Yamaha Dealer? They beat everybody's price, (by a little) and I don't have to pay tax.
Has anybody had dealings with ED's? Why do they have to be shipped to a dealer? (mounting them myself).
All the dealers in my area are priced higher....so I just walk up to the dealer I had them shipped to, and say put them on my trailer, and take them home and mount them? When they did not get the business! Seems like a needless stop on the route to my house.
Any comments on ED'S as a reputable business, or not, would be greatly appreciated.
Will they deal a lower price than is posted on their website?
I contacted them a year ago and found the same problem. If you drive there they will put them in your truck and drive away.Or what I did was use their price to negotiate a comparable price locally.Pay the tax and slightly more or drive a lot and no tax but gas is expensive! The whole deal has to do with territories,if you would have done this approx. 2years ago they would have shipped them from what I was told when I called them and spoke to a sales person. Good Luck, Dave..
Just maybe ---will not allow mounting by non-yamaha people on big engines-- I have run into the same problem with Honda engines--Company Policy--- have show purchaser how to run the unit--- aka product liability-- same reason for tigger locks and video with almost everything
I've seen others on here that HAVE bought motors from Ed's and had them shipped directly to themselves - not sure what hp they were, though?
Maybe it DOES have something to do with the LARGER hp's?
But WHY would they have to go to a Yama DEALER - is there any requirement by YAMAHA that an AUTHORIZED DEALER must install certain larger hp motors or do some kinda' "dealer prep" on them before "delivery"?
Ed's SHOULD be able to tell you WHY? Talk to Bobbie or Lisa and ask them!

Last year I had to sign a checklist from Yamaha immediately after sea trial when I bought my boat. During the sea trial the service manager went over everything on the motor I needed to know and then some. Until that checklist was signed by me 9that he infact had gone over the motor with me) the warranty was not in effect.
Just for the record, I don't think they should be permitted to just ship a new motor into another guys territory.
ED's the best, if your looking for HPDI's in FL, there are some great deal in the tampa bay area, a yamaha box engine dealer (like ed's), but bigger had Z-150 TXRC HPDI'S for $7,942.00, probally also has 200 HPDI's for a little more.
Could it be that your everyday home owner does not have the meens to get the engines off a flat bed trailer? They were loaded with a fork truck and normally come off the same way.

I've never been a racist. I don't like the white half either.
I spoke with a ED's salesman at the Baltimore boat show this year. I was inquiring about the cost of a repower on my 25 Whaler(twin 200hpdi's or ox66's etc) Basically, I was looking at $24,000-$25,000 installed with a basic Yamaha gauge package...I felt this was high and after surfing the internet felt better deals could be found in Florida...Regardless its a huge exspense...

This is true I think. LOTS of freight is returned because the transport company can't afford to dick around for an hour or two while you round up your buddies to move two 500# boxes around or worse yet- ask them to come back tomorrow... it ain't happenin'. Also, they have trouble getting in and out of residential areas. My street is 3/10 mile long and dead ends at the river
