Default Glasstream 32 scx?

I am looking at upgrading my current CC. I have a 23' polar. I am interested in the Glasstream 32 scx. Ilike the size, looks and fuel efficiency. Can any current owners comment on ride quality dryness, ect.

Every time I find a boat that interests me it gets bad reviews. I understand this boat had issues in the past with delam. The old posts are several years old. Any current issues? I have also been told it is too light and not well built enough for serious offshore fishing, and beam isn't wide enough?

I like the fact it gets very close to 2 mpg at a very fast cruise!, I like the fact that it can fly close to 70 if you want to spend the gas money, I like the small cuddy as I have two younger kids.

I will be fishing in the Atlantic off NC coast. Probably a dozen trip or so a year. Maybe a little more or a little less. It doesn't have to be built like a yellowfin as I am not spending the same money, however I don't want to buy a boat that wasn't meant for these conditions either.

Thanks for any replies. Not necessarily looking for other ideas however if you got one in mind I am looking for 29-32 cuddy or fish around. Must get at LEAST 1.5 mpg at reasonable cruise. (contender 31 fish around is also in the running)

Thanks for your help.

They look like economical budget boats.....good news for buyers these days. I'd be interested to hear from actual owners as well.

.
Very simply, it wasn't meant for ocean conditions.

Ok did a little checking. I'm sure the hull is designed for speed which also makes it efficient but it also has a 24 degree deadrise hull which should ride well in the rough stuff. They advertise a smooth dry ride (maybe they go fast enough to blow past spray). As far as weight it has a heavier dry weight than 31 cape horn and 400 pounds less than yellowfin. It should be in the mix as far as weight.

Jag, did you own one, can you elaborate. I read comments about delam, but that was the only complaint I really saw as well as a lack of response from the factory. think I remember your name in some responses, but those were from 06'.

I want a good riding efficient boat with good speed and reliability. Twin 275 Verados take care of some of that. Now the boat has to take care of the ride.

Thanks again for feedback

if you want a good riding center console with a cuddy go see norman at whitewater. I have a 28ft whitewater cuddy and my boat looks like a 36 footer compared to the 28ft glasstream. by the way there isn't any comparison in the ride or fabrication because my next door neighbor has a 28ft glasstream

I own a Glasstream 273SCX mine rides extremely well even in rough water. You should go test drive one. When I got mine I took a saturday and met up with one of their dealers. The day we went out the water wasn't extremely rough but it was windy. It handled good and the ride was smooth. I know some of the reviews are harsh but people are full of negitivity on this site. If you want a real answer to your question go drive one. Like I said my family loves ours.

best of luck to you.

Thanks for the answers! I am hoping to get some good feedback before I drive to Florida to check them out. Not any around nc that I know of.

Do you fish out of it or is a more a cruise boat?

Yes, I have a Glasstream in my past. There is a reason you don't see many in the ocean. Personally, I have never seen one in the ocean. I think you will not be happy and the final slap in the face will come when trying to sell it. Good luck either way.

I have driven my friends 32 with 250 Opti's, nice boat, handles well, ran in the low 60's. Had 5 people on it and fuel. Was out in 2-3's didnt even notice them. On a side note, he just uncovered it for this summer and noticed he had two broken welds on his bimini top supports. They are aluminum that is powder coated, When they dressed it to weld, had to remove the powder coating, used spray paint to cover the welds up. The shop that fixed it said this was common for boats from Florida, water gets inside of the tubing and freezes during the winter, braking the welds. Not sure I totally believe that was the reason, the tubing would have to be full of water with no room for it to expand when it froze before it could brake a weld. They drilled some weep holes in the others so it wouldnt repeat the problem. This is the second 32 in Md that I have seen this happen too.
Other than that not bad boats.

A little of both. My son and I fish on it a few times a month and wife and I have even went out for overnight trips. I love my boat and have had no major issues from it.

I think you'll enjoy it.
Best of luck.

Default Cracked hull on Glasstream 242 CCX

If you buy one of these boats I hope you have better luck than I did. My hull cracked within the first month after I bought it from previous owner. It was a 2000 that I picked up a year later. The crack developed in the top of the step and now others have opened up in the strakes and transom.
This boat is worthless as a resale and I would be surprised if the reputation for lack of quality doesn't become widespread.

And how long after you discovered the crack did you decided to repair it?

Unless you run into something I don't think it would crack. I've had 2 different Glasstreams and have never had this problem. But you went 10 years with a cracked hull and your just trying to do something about it now?

Hmmm????

Default 2005 Glasstream 328SCX

Guys,

I too am new, and am looking at a used 2005 328scx. I would very much appreciate any advice or objective opinions. I think I found a good buy on one with 275 verados, but am passing on a very nice 32 Donzi if I buy it. I do realize that they are like comparing apples and oranges, both boat and money wise. Any Advice?

There are a couple of new posts from new owners having some issues. They don't sound really bad, but as you are asking...

Grouper I am not sure what your budget is but you may want to consider a intrepid 323 cuddy. It wont go 70 but with twin 300's it will go 60. The intrepid will get 1.5 mpg at a nice clip.

Hard to run into something at the top of the step. See the pictures I posted in another thread.
BTW, you're = you are

I bought a new Glasstream 24 CCX and the quality is below average. My hull has not cracked but I have had numberous hardware problems, water leaks in to the center console, I had to get towed in on the first day. After Glasstream got my money, they would not return calls, avoided all my problems, they say they will call back but they never do.
