Default Competition Boats... Too.Late.

Stopped by a small custom builder in Miami who does great work. Same quality as any top tier builder, and about 1/3 of the price....

Here is a THT members boat. Too.Late.

Should be completed by tomorrow or thursday.

nice boat....but I'd be skeptical about same quality for 1/3 the price....you usually get what you pay for......outside looks nice...but what's on the inside? whats the construction? what materials?

Looking good. I would ask Manny to switch that t-top canvas for a no lace style (if he knows what that is). Cost a few $$ more but such a clean install to go along with your clean lines and no little holes from grommets dripping water on you when wet.

Nice boats.

I would definitley have him throw some sort of sealent alond the aft edge of the console, other-wise all of your stuff is going to get wet. Would have been easier to do before he put in the batteries.

Any pic/progress of teh 39?

So he can build a similar quality boat, like a Yellowfin that costs $300k, and do it for around $100k? What's wrong with this picture? He should have a waiting line around the corner, no? At that price, why would you go anywhere else?

His build is considered on par with Sea Vee, Whitewater etc.....

He uses the best of the best materials....

The stringer system is the same thats on the 35-39 contenders, and bigger then the ones on the 32, 30, 28, 23......

The mold is the same mold as the original contender 25.

He gets all of his parts from the same places that make all the parts for sea vee, contender, whitewater, cigarette etc....

The t top builder is the same person that does Sea Vee. Same upholsterer also.

If manny had the exposure... this company would blow away most builders... Would you rather have a sea fox or a competition at the same price? No brainer....

The 39 is still in progress. He has a lot of orders before he can put time into the 39. Will be sick when done though. At around 200k rigged with trip 350's it will be a great boat for the money....

They look like sweet boats. Just curious what a new 25 goes for.

I have heard nothing but good things of this builder and his boats. The only thing is that for me, I'm not a fan of bracket boats.

Mine is a 2005 and it's as solid as a rock. No issues at all with the boat or rigging.

If that's the case, I'd like to here from the MC's of the boat builder industry on how a company can use the same raw materials and the same parts, same outside vendors as the brand names, same quality/workmanship, and sell them for 1/3rd the price and still make a living??...I know there's overhead and I know there advertizing, but this spread is way to big. If you guys recall the big discussion on what a builders margins are or should be or what a boat costs to build..it was never this wide a difference.

I'm in manufacturing and we lose business to China like many do, but we get beat by 5, 10 maybe 15%....but a local competitor could never beat us by even that much, let alone 60 or 70%.....this should make for an interesting topic.....

If he's as good as you guys say, he's underpaid....but I'm glad to see guys like this making a go of it...

Manny's shop is the size of a couple oversized garages. I think he only has 5 or 6 employess. If you have ever been to Hialeah you would know there's wheelin' and dealin' goin on every second of the day. He's also a pretty good business man from what I can tell in the conversations I've had with him. Trust me, his overhead is no where near that of SeaVee, Contender etc. He also has about a 4-5 month wait on his boats.

I was thinking more of silicon seal or 4200 along that gap in pic #9. Personally, I want the console as dry as possible.

I agree that w/ more exposure, he would blow it away. Most smaller builders just don't tap into the web like they should. A well-done web page can make a huge statement for a guy who likely doesn't want to spend much $$ on ads. Carlos ar Ocean Runner is very similar.

Thanks for the update on teh 39. At that price point, that is a lot of boat.

Competition is a fairly well known name in south Florida. They definitely make a fine boat, I've swordfished on one at night. Quality work, I'd buy one over a Contender. It's a really small shop in the heart of the industrial section of Miami. His overheads aren't even on the same planet as the other boats mentioned and if his markups aren't as high as the others than that's his choice. But they make a fine boat.
