I would give her what she wants. A built in head is nice. Room to use it is especially nice.

My wife will use the gunwale or a bucket if we are on a skiff, but she prefers to do her business perched atop a porcelain bowl, who wouldn't. She also likes the privacy of an enclosed head to change clothes and do other female things.

If your wife is a true boating companion to you, then it is a small thing to afford her some privacy, comfort, and peace of mind knowing she won't have to see you toting that porta-pottie around with a grimace on your face!

If you ever see a center console with a bunch of grown men standing in the bow and no one is holding a fishing rod, that's because some SOB is taking a dump in the head, in the console, and everyone is trying to stay upwind!

This should be a non-issue. There are plenty of 24-28' boats - center console, walkaround, express - available with a porcelain head from the factory. The used boat market on the West Coast may be a bit limiting so expand your search towards the east.

For what it's worth, my boat has a porta-potti in the center console that is plumbed to a pump-out, but it's never been used. Boys go over the side, ladies seem to be able to hold it.

I have officially surrendered. Porta Potty is out.. even if plumbed. So is a pure fishing boat we will be getting a cruiser I can fish from. Also out is anything smaller than 26' she likes the bigger boats better. It will still serve my needs fine.

26 foot cc is a great range to fish and pull a tuber if you like. Man a bucket is fine for most anything...they get below, balance themself a little, drop the kids off at the pool and then over the side gone forever...now we are not riding around with turds bouncing with us all day...and daddy has NO clean up later

Check out the SeaLand Marine Traveler head...It's a porcelain head with its own integrated holding tank...It plumbs into the boats fresh water system, so you don't need to worry about thru-hulls under the water line...You can set it up for pump out, pump overboard, or both...

I originally had a porta-potti in my Sea Ray, and changed it out...I had a "No Poop" policy with the porta-potti, but the SeaLand head is fabulous, and can usually be installed in the same spot as a porta-potti...

Default After reading this thread,

I think some here need marital training, or counseling, and not boating experience.

This post is worthless without pics.........Not necessarily in the aforementioned act though.

I have a somewhat related question (for some of you maybe its one in the same ): What about your dog ?----where/when does it get to go?

Tell Princess she can use the bathroom at home all she wants. Go buy whatever boat you want and leave her at home.

As a father of three daughters, wonderful daughter in laws, and a wife, my rule...........
The porta potti is not used.
Sure doe's not make me a whole lot popular with my ladies though now and then.
Cant use one that I have taken off the boat.

I must be lucky.
I had a 27ft Triton with full head and shower and when I went to get my Regulator I asked if she liked the 24 better than the 23 because it had a head. She said,"what do I need that for, I hardly used it on the other boat. It's your boat pick the one you like. You still have a bucket, right?"
I gotta keep this woman!

If I go BOATING my wife goes and has no problem using a bucket or gunnel,if I go FISHING she prefers to stay at home, when she first climbed aboard the 30ft cc she asked where the seats were and I directed her to the 2 seat console if we are BOATING I told her the seat next to mine is always hers, but when I go fishing your seat is the couch at home, she understood perfectly

Just get her what she asked for and you will both be happy in the long run. She is your wife and you should take care of her, this is probably very important to her and she will be more comfortable on your boat. I just give my wife what she asks for, something like that should not be an issue.

My 26' boat had a full head and we rarely ever used it. I took it out and now have a ton of space in the console to store stuff. They sell toilet seats that can go over a 5 gallon bucket which work just as well as a head.

Exactly.....I was gonna ask "your wife goes fishing with you?" She never will, and master bathroom option will cramp your style for as long you own the boat.
