Default Another prop question, suggestion

Just pulled the prop off my Johnson OP 150. It is a 15 x17 aluminum prop. Hole shot is great, but I am looking for more top end. The motor is on a 20' Sea Hunt Escape. With 1/2 fuel (30 gals)and 2 people, she will do 38 (GPS) wot 5500, trimmed out. Seems slow to me. Any suggestions.

Posted this in the prop expert thread and it got lost.

That does seem low.* My essentially similar McKee Craft will go 46 MPH and I'm spinning a 15.25" X 15 prop on my Yamaha 150.* Do you have a T-top?

Maybe try something like a*Bombardier Viper in a 14.75" X 19.* As long as you're above 5000 RPM at WOT with that prop you'll probably pick up some top end.

Definitely not getting the speed you should. Are you trimming the motor up? What hole is your motor mounted on?.. your RPM is at the high end for a 2stroke, so I would have to guess your prop is not accurately pitched and is very passively cupped if at all. I have a Sea hunt 220 with a TTop, a F150 and even with 90 gls. of gas and 3 people I hit 42mph GPS. I have a 14.5 by 17p SS Silverado and am currently running a 4blade SS Typhoon and also hit 42 w/afull tank. My weight has to be @ 500lbs more than your setup.

Are you sure your speedo or GPS is not set at knots?
