Default New Mercury 4-Stroke 115 Hp

Recently traded the ole Mercury 90 2 stroke for a new Mercury 4 stroke 115 Hp....Anyone had any trouble with this 4 stroke engine before?...Was this a good move or bad move...not that it matters now...Ha!....I see it's a Yamaha block in disguise.

Also...it's on a 18 ft Sea Pro CC and they put a 14 inch 15 pitch prop on it...I've only got 1.5 hrs on it breaking it in thus far, so I haven't put the top end on it yet...I troll a lot...what do yall think about expected performance out of this setup??

Thanks in Advance.

I have heard of some people who have had lower unit issues with the 115 four stroke. However, that was a couple years ago. The Yamaha 115 four stroke is the same motor with a yamaha lower unit instead of a mercury one. ALso might want to consider the suzuki 115.

There have been some " making oil " issues that you may want to run a search on. Bottom line...don't baby it on the break in and don't switch to synthetic oil until it is well broken in.

I just sold the 2004 Mercury 115 4 stroke efi saltwater 25" shaft motor that you see on the back of my boat on my signature picture. The motor is very smooth and reliable. It would start up instantly after weeks of non-use. The gas mileage is stellar. I sold it off the back of my boat because it was just too small for my setup. My hull was 2000lbs without engine, ear, accesories (19' boat). It moved the boat fine with 2 grownups and half a tank of gas. I just wanted more oomph, as I typically will have 5 or 6 persons on the boat, with some of them being pulled on a tube. I bet on you boat you will see 40mph top speed; I saw 35ish on my boat.

I've had the same engine for 3 years and it is fantastic. Starts within seconds even after sitting for weeks. The only problem I have had is in winter storage. I broke the "fuel cooler" the first year because there was still some water in it. Now I just remove the lower water hose from the cooler when she goes into storage.

Almost all of the "making oil" folks did a lot of extended trolling/idle and very little high speed running. This engine likes to be run WOT !
