Default Decarb of HPDI

I've read quite a bit on this forum about motors and it is very interesting as I am fixing to buy a new boat. I have read something about "decarbing" the HPDI motors. What is this, how often does it have to be done and does it have to be done on the newer motors?

Merci!

I decarb mine every 50 hours. With the plug fouling the 250's and 300's seem to be prone to, I can't imagine not doing it. There's got to be carbon build-up on more places than the plugs. On the other hand, since my plug fouling is finally over, I probably could do it less often.

The newer motors use less oil than the olders ones for sure.
I decarbed after the first 150 hours of operation with seafoam. Had slight puffs of smoke come out the exhaust for the first 15 seconds of operation then nothing after that.
On some older motors the smoke was billowing out for 10 minutes, this diffrence showed me that decarb is not really a nessesity every year on the newer motors, I plan to seafoam every 200 hours just for peace of mind.

Chemguy,

I didn't even include washing out the inside of the cowlings, changing 12 plugs and remembering not to give it too much reverse coming off the trailer.

BB-

You've got one of THOSE motors...Sorry man, I didn't mean to rub salt in that wound...It sucks and I hope they get the problems figured out for your sake and everyone that is involved.
