Default 33 Bertram-370 Cummins

I'm thinking about taking a look at mid 80s Bertram with 99-00 Cummins 370s in it.

Owner says that this boat will turn WOT right at 40knots. 2k rpms is 20knot cruise. At first I thought that 20 knots over that extra 1000rpm is too much, but after looking at the spec sheets and a little research I think this is plausible.

Anyone here have any experience with this setup? I know there are a lot of 330s out there.

If everything checks out with surveying and everything, it may be a steal.

Spec sheet is a little newer than the motor, but should be pretty close.

40 for that boat is pretty optimistic. If you find that she actually makes this speed, I would be surprised and like to know.

40 kts in a Bertram 33 with 355 hp Cummins B-370's? Maybe surfing down the face of a 60' wave!!! Otherwise never.
I am not very familiar with that package in a Bertram 33, but in a Blackfin 32 Flybridge, which I have experience with, it will generate a 24/25 kts cruise at 2,700 rpm and 28-29 kts @ wot.

I agree with LI32. Find out the pitch of the props and the reduction ratio and do the math. I bet factoring 0% slip it won't do 40 knots. That said, I would like to have that setup if it is a 33SF.

It is a SF and he said 40 light light with just him, but it seems high. Maybe 40 mph is what he meant, but he definitely said knots. I will sea trial it and find out. When I saw it I figured 26-27 cruise and 33 WOT. Motor specs say they will turn 3000, which is also what he confirmed.

You're numbers are correct. 26-27 knot cruise, 32-33 knots WOT. Maybe he meant 40 mph?

I am more than happy with topping out at 31-32 knots, with a cruise in the 25 range. What is the opinion of the engine and the setup in this boat?

Cruise better than 1/1?

What about engine compartment space? Would these things make it impossible to work on?

Default 33 bertram

No way on 40 knots - if so boat wouldnt track correctly in water! Mine has 330B's and I get 24 knots at 2500 rpm. For sale if interested. Its ready to go - I gurantee its nicest on market. Jax. florida 904-294-0299
