You can figure on $12-$18 per foot for a hull survey, and basic engine check. A hull survey with full engine survey usually runs $20-$25 per foot.

For $20-$25 per foot it better take two full days to do it. That's piracy. Does that come with a written guarantee?

I had one done a year ago on a 2680 Glacier Bay and paid $11 per foot (26 foot), plus the cost of the compression check ($100).

That's for a full hull survey, in and out of the water, a compression check of the motor(s), engine oil analysis, and hooking a computer up to the engines and getting a computer reading on the actual condition and hours of the motors.

Two full days - you bet. At least one full day for the survey, and at least a day for the report. Not all surveyors charge this, or are able to. This is for a surveyor that is also an engine surveyor. Alot of surveyors just compression check the motors without the oil analysis or computer hookup.

No guarantee, but you can absolutely sue a surveyor for any errors or ommissions in the report. They are very careful and in my neck of the woods the good ones are generally booked up all the time. If you want a cheap survey I could have one of the rummys at my local gin mill do a survey for you. You say how much you want to pay and that is how much they will charge you. Better yet, if you tell them you want the survey to say that the boat is in perfect shape, then that is what it will say.

I would venture to say ..if you spend a $1000.00 on a survey and it keep's you from spending a dime on a Boat your still $999.90 ahead of the game !!!
