Default Parker 21DV Splashwell/Opinions?

Has anyone created a splashwell for their Parker 21DV? I've searched through the archives here, and the only knock on this boat seems to be the low transom. Wondering if any of you crafty THT'ers have come up with something to minimize the problem?

Any other first hand experience with this boat would be appreciated, looking at a used model powered with a 200HP fuel-injected Yamaha.

Thanks,

-- Tom

My buddy has a 2002 Parker ccdv with the 30" long shaft outboard and it gives him an extra 5" of height at the cutout in the transom, before he bought the boat we test rode on another 21 Parker ccdv with the lower cutout and everytime we slowed down our feet were drenched, pretty missurable if not dangerous in some circumstances. If you had the boxes in the corners you could devise a way to block between the boxes with kingstarboard ,make it removeable.JMO

Default RE: Parker 21DV Splashwell/Opinions?

After a year with the 2120 DVSC I am contemplating removing the splashwell partition that was installed as stock eqt. I fretted over the darn thing continuously during the purchase and was pleased (at the time) when I saw the newer installation. I am not so fond of it now, however. I have been stern-to in some pretty big seas and purposely backed down on some whitecaps and breaking waves. This boat's stern bobs like a cork! I also know the risks associated with taking a big one over the stern and a six inch splashwell partition ain't going to do much to help that situation.

The last boat I had was stern heavy and had a cut-out transom. I swore I'd never have another one 'cause my feet were continually wet year 'round. Yet I ended up with another cut transom and have been testing it at every opportunity (big people in the stern, confused seas, rapid decelleration, etc.- I have not been disappointed in the performance yet. Mind you, I only have 500 lbs. of motor on the rear(F150), and there is perhaps a significant difference with a larger outboard. I also have a full 95 qt. cooler of ice back there, and I typically carry two or three large, rude, and beastly redneck friends that like to sit out back. No problems yet.

I want to remove the splashguard because:

1) It prevents spray or other water introduced into the pit from draining quickly. This is a real pain when using the raw water wash to get the sea lice, blood, etc. out.

2) It is underfoot when running the rodtip around the motor when playing fish.

3) Black gunk builds up under it quickly and is a pain to get rid of.

4) The drains/openings at each end are not large enough to allow leaves and other trash to exit during rain storms when parked in the yard.

5) In the back of my mind I think about the day when I do get a big one over the stern and I need to dump it through the cut-out asap. No need to have something like this in the way.

Yes, there are positives about the splashguard. Looks cool, keeps small stuff from exiting out the stern when I forget to stow everything before a hole shot, and it keeps the big cooler from sliding back against the engine. Having been a customer that once pestered the Parker salespeople about the splashwell/cut out transom I can understand the motivations the manufacturer had in fabricating and installing this piece. I probably would not have believed a rambling post about this very subject here on this forum either. But here it is.

This is probably more than anyone ever wanted to read about this obscure topic. Sorry, I got carried away with my retentiveness!

I never had a problem with either a 18" or 23' notch transom Parker.

Thanks for the feedback guys, I do appreciate it.

The transom cutout on the 21DV is different than the 21SE. I have also learned that Parker offered a removable splashwell as an option on this model, so I may be able to get one from the factory.

From what I have been able to find, water coming in the back is a factor of how much weight is in the boat, coolers, ice, livewell, and # of fisherman.

Any other first-hand info appreciated!

I have the factory (removeable) splash gate on a 23SE. I fish rips alot and have never taken anything large over the transom, but I'm pretty careful about how I run the boat...afterall, if you take abig one over the backside, an 8" piece of starboard won't stop it.

I have one minor complaint about the slash gate, though-- it is installed over the deck hatch, so to check bige pumps you need to remove it. If it were up tp me I'd move the hatch forward so it wouldn't be under the gate.
