Default grady white 228 - 2.5 million reasons?

I heard grady white spent 2.5 million on the design of their V2 hull. A dealer who sells grady's and parker's steered me away from parker 2320 for rideability. Even though parker has 1 degree more of deadrise, he said the grady blows it away. I guess all that enginering paid off.

He also said the new '05 parker rides a little better than the '04, but not in the league of the grady. The only thing is I really liked the pilot house design on the '04.

I have always liked the grady, but on my budget a guess I'll be looking used, the parker I could barely squeek a new one. My wife says enough already and make a decision. She only took one visit to pick out her car.

Is a new parker specked out the way you want a better value than a slightly used grady?

I'd steer you toward the grady too, if I could make a better commision on it.

I own a Parker, and my brother-in-law owns a Grady. Both are great boats, but yes... they do each have a different 'ride', as does every brand out there, bar none.

What you need to decide is what is important to you... How fast do you need to go, what sort of (fuel) economy is important to you, and how much cockpit room do you want (or need)?

There are no absolutes in boats...

If you like the Parker pilot house design, that tells me shelter from the elements is important to you. The Grady 228 has one of the smallest cabins of any walkaround boat on the market.

Stretch is correct. My brother-in-laws boat is a 228. It is a nice boat, but the cabin is tiny.

When all is said and done a larger cabin means less cockpit space and less cockpit space means less room to fish. You'll also loose the W/A feature on the pilothouse which I don’t use all that often but it comes in handy now and then.

I really like the 25' pilothouse and it's on my short list I but think the pilothouse design is a bit of a stretch on a 23' boat.

thanks for feedback. I have to buy something soon because my reserve funds that were earmarked for the boat are under attack. There is dangerous talk of an addition to the house. If I don't strike soon, all may be lost.

I definately want a good riding hull. Aside from weather protection and trailerability that is #1 factor.

Tell the dealer to take you out for a test ride on each boat and thus you can decide on the ride for yourself.

I fish pretty regularly on a grady 232 and 265. They are both great boats and the ride is wonderful. I have another buddy with a 24 foot parker I'm not sure what the model is. All I can say is that its one wet boat. If it wasn't for the piolt house we would get soaked. If you get one windshield wipers are a must. Dont take my word or the salesmans though, go for a sea trial.

I've got an brand new 228 ('05 w/~30 hrs.), and have been transferred to Phoenix, AZ. Not much water out here I'm considering selling it - you interested?

I have fished on a 95 226 Grady (SeaVee2) fairly extensively in rough and calm water.

The boat is pretty stable in rough water on the drift or troll, but is a bit of a pounder in anything over honest 2' chop. You just have to take it slow. It is pretty well laid out with very good cockpit space for a 22' boat. Cabin is small and utilitarian. Seems like it would be a great family boat. Boat has held up well and sold before it was put on the market.

Parker I can't say I've ridden, but I think they are a decent boat. I would not consider either boat to be all that great of a head sea boat, but that is not everything.

Test ride both and decide for yourself, don't let some salesman push you into a boat.

Good luck,
Ben

It's the biggest riding 22 footer that I have been on. Rides as well as most 25s and has a bigger cockpit than most 25s.

The Parker 2520 DV twin 225 4s
brackets was on my short list but (new2003)
loaded was over budget and
not family friendly. The gunales were low
and I have young kids.
I don't think you can go wrong with the GW 228!
Now thank the dealer and buy a (lightly ) used
late model 228 and save $$$$$
God Bless you guys who buy new!
It makes our dream boats possible!

I have a 1998 228,bought it in 2000 had 15 hrs on the 225 OX66.The head had never been used ,cushion still had the tags on em.Icom MC127 vhf,Furuno 1650 DF Panasonic stereo,Loadmaster 7K# trailer. The only thing I have added was a Furuno 1712 radar and a Floscan. It`s a great riding boat ,easy to launch and retrieve.Having said all of that, there is no way I would pay $65K with out any of the toys mentioned for a new 228.

I looked at the new grady 226's and '05 parker 2320's yerterday. Couldn't test ride either yet. I went over both hulls very carefull, but until I test ride them, theres not much more I can do. I might have to wait for a boat show, because i'm not doing a p+s before I test ride the boat, what sense does that make. I think the first one of these dealers that offers me a test ride without a bunch of BS will have my business.

When I sold my boat, I had no problem giving out test rides.

Kind of like the chicken and the egg.
