I recently returned to boating and I'm just trying to see if there are any THT members in the lake Lanier area that I could catch up with now and then to learn from. I purchased my 2004 Proline 23 walk a couple of months age but have only been able to get on the water 4 times recently due to some issues at work. Normally it's not a problem for me to take a day or two off during the week.
I am one of several users of the forum to boat on Lake Lanier. In fact, I have been boating on Lanier for 37+ years. We have a house on the Cumming side of the lake. My boat (20' Grady) is in the boathouse and I use it year round.
I live in woodstock and fish all other north Ga including lanier. I have two boats 1 is an old ranger bass boat that I usually use when fishing around here and 1 is an old Wellcraft V20 taht I trailer down to Destin a half dozen times or so a year. We will have to hook up and go fishing sometime at Lanier or Altoona(the dead sea)
Been boating on Lanier since I moved to Atlanta from Florida in 1991.
My GW (see pic below) is kept at Hammond's Crossing...already winterized though ** Of course the new first mates more than make up for it.
There are a few other members in the Atlanta area on the board...at this rate we may have enough for a THT get together in the near future.* Count me in
I'm another Lake Lanier person. I live in Marietta but keep my boat up at Vann's Tavern boat storage and launch there. Boat is a 1993 Grady 230 Gulfstream. Hope to see some of you on the lake some time. CH. 16 Bokat.
Another vote for a THT get-together in the near future. I live in Sandy Springs. Just got back from Florida and my 202's maiden voyage. I will be storing her at Lake Lanier, and will be fishing some during the winter months. This will be my first time storing a boat at Lanier. Any suggestions regarding an available facility? Any comments regarding Aqualand or Lanier Harbor? Thanks.

Do not know about Aqualand Dry Storage but can tell you a little about Lanier Harbor. We keep our first boat there 38 years ago when it was known as Gunter's and have watched it since then. It offers several advantages including launching and a 24 hour store and gas dock. Checked rates last summer for my neighbor and they were very reasonable. Lanier does get a little busy on summer weekends and it is a bit of a drive from either I 85 or GA 400.
If you are interested in launching yourself, I would look at one of the storage yards around Hammonds. Pathery keeps his boat at Hammonds and may have insight on thier operation. Several new facilities have been built also. There are many good ramps that are easy to acces from this area. From Sandy Springs it is a straight shot up 400.
I had a boat on Lanier for about 20 years at our cabin on 6 mile creek. We sold it and it was knocked down for someones year around 1mm+ home.
Great Lake for winter stripers and summer skiing. This lake has a corps of engineers induced tide, they open up the dam and wala..... Stumps and rocks appear, then they close the dam and it's back to high tide.
I had a lot of fun on that body of water and miss that lake!
I have been boating on Lanier for about 6 years, mostly water sports and family outings. I havn't done much freshwater fishing, I go to the GOM or the Atlantic 3 or 4 times a year to fish. However I am building a home on lanier next year so I will have to get into the stipper thing.
I also own a Proline. It is 22'' W/A with 200 Merc. I has been a great all around boat for the family and I have not had any problems. I hope your experience will be the same with your new Proline.
Haywire - you want to dry store it or keep it in a secure area on the trailer?* There is a big difference in price.* Last time, I checked, Lan-Mar and Starboard were getting close to $1500 a year for dry stack.
If you don't mind towing it 5 minutes to the ramp, take a look at Hammond's Crossing (about a mile east of 400 at Exit 17 - right behind the Exxon station.)* $35 a month for secure covered storage on the trailer.* Plus, gas and bait are right there and its a whole lot cheaper than buying it on the lake.
Any of ya'll interested in a salt water fishing club based in Atlanta? I'm a member of the Atlanta Salt Water Sportsmans Club (aswsc.org). There is plenty of info on our website or I would be glad to answer any questions.
We have about 6 - 7 tournaments each year with our June tournament usually in the Keys or Bahamas for a week. We fish in West Palm in Jan. for sails, Apr. in Mexico Beach, May in Destin, June as mentioned before, July we have a picnic up at Lanier, this past Aug. was in Indian Pass around Apalach. , Sept. is usually in Orange Beach, Al. (hurricaned out this year), and Oct. is usually in Venice, La. Nov. is an off month and Dec. we have a Christmas party. Then Jan. in West Palm starts our year all over again.
I was up at the Lake this afternoon. It was a beautiful afternoon and evening. I dragged umbrella rigs from Brown's Bridge north up the main channel and back but no stripers. Do you guys monitor any particular VHF channel? My boat name is the same as my forum name. Give me a holler on 16 if you're up at the lake some time.
I've got family on Lanier and I'm there often, but usually boatless. I keep my boat on Tybee Island, GA year around, but sure wish it were closer when the line sides get hot on the Lanier.
If anybody needs a mate to split gas on Lanier while hunting for line sides let me know.
I joined the ASSC at the thier last meeting when Glen Burns was the speaker.
I fish lanier two to three times a week, I keep my lake boat at Starboard...it is a 23' deck boat. I usually end up fishing in other boats but it has caught plenty of stripers.
Here's a pic of a stiper I caught on a redfin a few weeks ago during the topwater madness:
thanks for all the replies everyone. I'm sure I'll be getting in touch when things calm down after the holidays. I also think it would be great to have a little local get together.
Outside chance I will be up there Friday night and Saturday. Have a few things to do on the boat but might get out for awhile. I'll give a call to BoKat if I do.
Remember Atlanta Boat Show is only a few weeks away.
I'd love to get out there...make no promises but maybe I'll get lucky and get out for a couple hours....
As for the Atlanta Show...last year was - to me anyway - a disappointment.* Seems like less and less saltwater boats and also - last year - less and less of the vendors selling all the good stuff, tools, etc...that I can't live without.* Coastal had a decent Contender display, and Bay had Grady's (although that won't happen this year)...but outside of that...seemed like a lot of bass boats, cruisers, and PWCs.
