Grady White Tourn/1999 Evinrude FICHT 175

I have read on the forum that the 1998/99 Evinrude FICHT 150 and 175 engines have problems. I am looking at a 1998 GW Tournament with a 1999 Evinrude FICHT 175. Was the problem with these engines something that could be fixed, or should I forget about this boat entirely. Thanks

Unless the price of the boat is reasonable, I'd foggetboutit. In my opinion those engines have no real value other than their lower units. I'd say the engines are worth $1000 to $1500 a piece. So price the boat accordingly. If the engines run, fine. Whatever time you get out of them is time to save for the repower.

OMC came out with updates for those engines like new heads and ECM programming. Find out if those updates were performed, however it would not change the value of the engines.

The engines are worth nothing and the boat should be priced accordingly.
