Default Center Console stereos

I am looking to install a stereo on my 22ft Sea Hunt CC. Where is the best place to install the speakers? Please post pictures of your center console boat stereo system.

Do you want to hear the stereo when you are under way, or just when you are at anchor? If you want music when you are under way, you pretty much have to aim the speakers right at your head. My Pro-Line had speaker spaces in the overhead electronics box which work perfectly. It is still not quite loud enough over the engine and I am considering placing rear speakers on the back of my T-top facing forward.

Mount the speakers were the sound will bounce of the gunel walls inside the boat close to the center of the boat. Also helps if you can keep them out of the sun and from constant water exposure. One of my JL 6.5" speakers just crapped out after 3 years, im not happy.

I'm using this stereo and speakers with no amp. Plenty loud enough and I think because of the placement.

It works well in my opinion.

Get an amplifier and they will last longer. Speakers without amps get distorted when turned up and it shortens the life of the speakers.

What is the model of the Sony stereo you have? Is that the remote control mounted by the gages? I know wake board towers are always loaded with speakers. Why don't you see those mouonted on center consoles?

You don't see them mounted on CC's because bazooka speakers are the poorest quality and don't last long at all (anyone who actually owns a wake board boat is ignorant and incompetent). Yes the remote is mounted next to his gauges and the head unit is appears to be the CDX-HS70MW.

Buy a good remote and buy a good head unit. Keep the head unit in the console or elec. box. Don't spend a ton of money on speakers as some will only last a few years.

This is a picture of my old 1999 Sea Hunt Triton 200 that I sold a few years ago. Kind of hard to see but I mounted two speakers on each side of the console and two below the helm near my knees. With a 200 watt deck these 5" marine speakers would definitely drown out the 225 merc while underway. The console acted like a speaker box and produced pretty good sound.

Clarion or fusion head unit
JL 4 ch amp and amp mounting kit
4 JL mx 650 speakers mounted in sides of boat-alternative: infinity kappas
Figure a thou or so if you install

Pros don't mount in upper electronics boxes....

my old boat had them mounted in the console. i agree the console acts like a chamber but it dont like bass going thru my mid range speakers.
i now have a sub in the console, two 6.5's mounted in the gunnels up front and the other two 6.5's low in the back. they are both equal distances from me at the helm. so in my opinion its the ideal placement for sound quality.

you def need an amp. you cant expect a stereo alone to produce good sound.

bazooka is a joke. so are wakeboard tower speakers on ttops

I've got 2 JL amps in my console.

2 JL speakers/tweeters in my hardtop pointing straight down at my head.

2 JL subwoofers in the recessed footwell of my console.

2 JL speakers/tweeters right up front by my anchor locker.

And it's hard to tell in this picture but I've also got 2 speakers/tweeters, one on each side, mounted right next to the tackle boxes facing the console.

They all run off of a Fusion head-unit that I highly recommend. It's very user-friendly and works great with my iPod.

i have a 2010 SH 220C bought new this past year w/o a stereo system however am planning to install a system utilizing the two inspection covers found in the forward bow section and two in the port/stbd gunnels just adjacent the bench for speaker housings. if i've successfully attached a photo (found on this site- thankyou very much); you'll note the existing cover have been modified to recieve the 6-in speaker. no hull or fiberglass cuts and all 4 speakers will be low and pointing apprximately midship. Stereo will be mounted in the T-top electronic box and out of reach the kids. the only item on the console will be the IPOD jack.
