E-TEC's come with a semi-synthetic bluish green lube called Ultra HPF. It is a formula change from the amber colored original HPF. It will also protect the gears and bearings if a moderate amount of water gets into the gearcase.

E-TEC's also use larger gears and gearcases throughout the model line. The twins use a commercial gearcase, the 3-bangers use a V4 and one uses a V6 gearcase, while the V6's use the Magnum gearcase. There is a new high performance gearcase to replace the original Lightining model for the 200 and 225 HO models.

So next season(already changed for this season) I can put this Ultra HPF gearcase lube in my Yamaha F100? I will still change every 100hrs, but is seems like this stuff is better than normal type. Thanks.

It's not only the gear case that's super sized. Prety much all the important parts are "over engineered". In addition tolerances throughout are much tighter than anything Evinrude has done in the past. I'm thinking Bombardier has learned from OMC's mistakes.

Now if I could find one at half the price.....

I was at my dealer today and I saw a e-tec bulletin that tells about the e-tec engins. They are also designed that if you run out of oil the engine will idle down to about 1200 rpms and it says you could run the engine for several hours. Something about a crankcase with oil that has enough oil in it to keep the bearings and other critical parts lubed. My dealer dosent want to sell these motors cuz he said it is gonna cut way down on his repair and maitence work and warrenty work from Bomb. I think Bomb has done their homework and when these engines prove themselves Bomb will be back on top!

Only problem I saw was the fact that they are unproven and they are pretty pricey as far as two strokes are concerned! I tried for several months to get my local dealer to give me an incentive to buy an unproven engine with no success, they already act as if they have gold. I don't doubt they will be great engines I have seen the 225 ETEC and was impressed but I chose to go with a motor that has been in the publics hands for a while. Maybe I chose wrong, however there are quite a few owners on the board that are very satisfied with the Suzuki's

I've got an E-TEC 90 hp on my 17 BW montauk...you might want to check out my thread on it here:

http://continuouswave.com/ubb/Forum4/HTML/003011.html

It seems to be a good motor, but somehow a lemon got out and I wound up with it. Still breaking in the third powerhead, not content with the 13.875x19 SST prop and have a Stiletto prop on order, not totally pleased with the low end performance but maybe I am overpropped and this will change.

Spent lots of money for this motor (nothing left to fix my old truck at this point but for now the boat is running again); it IS nice to not have a cloud of smoke everytime I start it though. Fuel economy on my whaler beats my old 1986 70 hp Evinrude hands down.

As for no maintenance, my dealer told me although they would cover any problems for the first three years it would only be prudent to at least change the lower unit oil just in case a seal gets whacked by fishing line or whatever. I was also told that an after-market warrantee is a nice thing to have as generally the factory knows what goes wrong while a third party company just asks for some photos... (I wish BRP had some better clues with my motor so I didn't lose so much fishing time this fall...)

Eelpot, hey I also am running an etec 90 (since april) and mine has been flawless. I am running a 19 pitch viper prop that is, I belive, the same diameter as yours. The prop is just right for the boat(1720 key west). I can trim up over 5000 even closer to 52,53 if the load is light enough and I keep a firm "grip" on the water no matter the sea conditions. Maybe you should look at a 19" viper if the stilleto doesn't do it for you. This engine is capable of spinning a good 19".....
my top speed when light is 42ish.... Good luck, once you get this all right, you are gonna love that motor for years....
