Default Key West 225CC vs Key West 2300CC

Comparing subject boats. Any comments on ride quality in 2-3' close period seas (i.e. Gulf of Mexico) or features in general?

Thanks in advance.

Well, the 225 is a new model for 2004 and the first hulls have only been available for about 2 months.* I doubt there is too much experience with them.

The 2300 is a decent riding boat, but I bet the new 225 will be better.* In the same general price range you may want to look at the Sea Hunt 220 and 232.

The 225 is not a completely new model - just the hull has changed.* Top sides are the same as the 2200 series.* The new hull is deeper and has a sharper entrance "V".* Also has trim tab pockets and* notched "V".* I have not had a chance to test the new 225, but the old 2200 rode great.* The 2300 tends to have a flatter ride with less bow lift.* The 2300 also has a much different deck layout with a huge walk-in console (CC model, SS model has the same console as the 225).* The 2300 can be rigged with twins, but not the 225.

2300 does run flat. 2-3 spaced apart runs fine. Close together have to slow down. Not especially quick with 225 yamaha 2 stroke WOT 41. Layout good for a eurotransom. Happy with my selection for the $$. The SWS prop is a better match than stock Aluminum. Haven't seen the 225

Spooled,

** You should be running faster than that.* Make sure you're propped correct and engine height is as high as poosible without prop blow-out.* You should be able to run at least mid 40's.

Haven't hit 45. Prop is a sws M15(stamped on side) Boat has TTop and loaded with gear and 1/2 tank fuel most times, bottom painted.. I trim the engine up as far as it will go without cavitating(4 bars on Yami Gauge). I will have to check the mounting hole.

Spooled, I have a 2300 cc model also, rigged with a 250 yamaha 2 stroke. I'm running 45 to 48 at wot fully loaded with a 19" sws prop, not quite fully trimmed. My motor is on the same block as yours. I would imagine that you can make 45 mph. My motor is mounted in hole #2.

Sorry, I didn't read the part where your bottom is painted. That will cause some un-wanted drag. Do you keep your boat in the water or on the trailer?

In water. Engine trimmed hit 5200 rpm. tried a few props. should have stayed with the 17 hit the same rpm with less slippage. I will check the mounting hole this weekend.

The 23 is a twin engine capable deep V with a 140 gallon fuel tank. The 225 is single engine only with a 100 gallon tank. The 23 has the fish box integrated into the full transom with a transom door for cockpit access. The 225 has the fishbox in the front of the boat and an open transom. The 23 has the livewell under the lean post; 35 gallon. The 225 has a transom mounted 20 gallon livewell, but can be fitted with the same 35 gallon livewell as an option. The console in the 23 is larger than the 225, but can be fitted with the same smaller console as the 225. So much for the major interior differences.

The hull of the new 225 actually has more displacement than the 23. It has a deeper bow that carries through the length of the hull for a beefier boat throughout. The 23 has a natural tendency to run flatter without the use of tabs. The 225 hull runs lighter in the bow, but the tabs can hold it down when running into a head sea. It's really hard to tell which hull runs smoother.

Which one is better? Good question. It really comes down to which interior layout suits your personal taste better. I like the 23 better. I really like a transom mounted fishbox and the centrally located livewell. It works for me.

How does a 23 WAC run with a 225 Yamaha 4stroke? How does it run in the rough stuff? What should I pay for a 2003 with no equip and a trailer included? Thanks...
