With all the posts about the HPDI 250/300 probs, how has the '02 HPDI 200 held up? I just bought a used regulator 21 with '02 hpdi, 38 hrs., and 4 more years left on the Y.E.S. warranty. Anything I should know or look out for? thanks...
previously owned a 150 (same block as 200) no problems whatsoever close to 600 hrs. currently own twin 200's, no problems to speak of after first 100 hours of ownership (bought used with 250 hrs). unfortunately, you have to ask if you want to hear the positives.. I wouldn't hesitate to keep buying these blocks.
I just sold a boat with twin '02 200 HPDI's on it. The engines had over 600 hours on them without any issues other than a bad batch of gas in the Bahamas. The best engines I have had. The compression was great when I sold them and my mechanic thought I would get 2000 hours out of them the way I maintained them. I hapoe that the twin 225 for strokes that I am getting are as reliable.

What have those of you that have put over 400 hours on the 200 HPDI's done as to oil, gas octane, plug replacement, etc. I bought my boat used this summer and the 200 HPDI's have about 170 hrs on them. *

Changed plugs at every 100 hours or more whether they looked like they needed it or not; dropped lower unit oil at the same time as well as required lubrication. Changed impeller and seal kit after 400 hours. Used 87 octane. ring free and Yamalube(1 gallon per 60 gals. gas). Went fishing and always flushed my motors except when in the islands. I also changed my Racors every 100 hours or so.
absolutely great motors! I had a pair of 01's and had one issue the first month w/ the high pressure pump and was repaired promptly under warrantee. I did all service as recommended and had a system of batteries that meet the requirements. I had racor filters. I did the normal service every year and did the impeller service every other year. I ran the boat in the 4200-4400rpm range mostly and did a LOT of trolling. I used only yamalube and was religous (semi) about ringfree. I sold the boat with 670hrs on it and it was running strong. I would not hesitate to recommend this power to anyone.
On the flip side, my new boat has twin 250 suzukis. I am COMPLETELY impressed with the power of these four strokes after hearing how the 2 strokes are SO much better power wise. I will never miss trips to get two stroke oil again or have that terrible feeling in the bahamas thinking "did I bring enough oil?" Try these motors out if your looking to repower. Just my .02
Do all the routine maintenence mentioned above. I bought mine used this summer and plan on doing water pumps this fall (I'm not sure when they were done last). They really are a low maintenance, trouble free motor.
That's more positive stuff i have heard about the Suzuki 4 strokes. Everyone seems to love them.
My '02 has run flawlessly; absolutely no problems. Just winterized as overnight lows are starting to get into low 30's. Won't crank her back up until May.

Pretty much my maintenance schedule, I also change the fuel filters on the motor and oil filter under the oil tank every 100 hours as well. I usually run around 4000 rpm's , do a fair amount of very slow trolling and have never had a problem. Over 900 hours on my 2002's and still going strong. I would be more worried about a motor a couple of years old only having 38 hours on it.
About 300 hours on mine. Aside from a little oil leaking from the oil tank cap under the cowel, it has been perfect. No fouling, never let me down. Runs great.
So far, so good on a pair of '02 200 HPDI's.
A couple of months (and many hurricanes) ago we had the chance to really run them.
150 miles one way to the Bahamas, kept them @ 43-4600 RPMs for a little over 3 1/2 hours nonstop.
Never missed a beat.
Ran 'em hard while we were there, then on the return trip ran 3500-4000 for 4 1/2 hours.
No problems.
I'm not thrilled about a few features on these engines, but they do run pretty nice.
